Default ECO Boost Issues?

I'm looking at buying a 2019 Lariat, 4x4, supercrew, 3.55 ratio, 20" wheels (fully loaded). It also has the 3.5L Eco boost motor. But I've heard mixed reviews, mostly from folks who owned these 5 or 6 years ago. Are there still issues with the Eco?

There are issues with *every* engine. There are also quite literally millions of 3.5EBs running around, with very satisfied owners. Buy it. If you're really worried, get an extended warranty.

I did a TON of research before buying mine. The Gen 2 EB's have been very good. In my opinion (and I voted with my wallet), it's the best choice of any 1/2 ton truck engine currently available. Well, the Tundra 5.7 is the best if strictly going by most dependable, but the 3.5EB is more powerful and fuel efficient.

If you don't need the extra towing capacity and aren't going to tune it, the 2.7EB is also a fantastic choice.

I really wanted the V8, but it was and it's still having more 'dangerous' issues than 3.5EBs, so I chose the latter. And after seeing the oil consumption problem explode in comparison when I was looking (a year ago), I don't regret my choice at all. Besides, I really wanted max cooling (only available with MaxTow), so that made my choice less 'painful' . And yes, both engines are having issues, with the main EB issue being the #2 with the V8s: cam phasers. But so far, in most cases, the ratcheting noises are reportedly just annoying, not really detrimental to the engines. If Toyota made a 'Platinum' Tundra, I'd have bought one, but it's still way behind the Ford IMO, which is still the best. Or more appropriately, the least bad. Ha ha. Good luck with yours.

Either ecboost engine would be a fine choice.

Very well said. I couldn’t recap better myself.

Just expect some odd noises and you won’t be disappointed.

I sold brand new 2016-2018 EcoBoost model F150s and NEVER had customers come back with issues. However, if you are flooring it constantly, I think over time this could cause some weird revs in 1st/2nd gear. I saw this issue in Mustang eco-boosts sometimes.

My ordered 2019 3.5 ecoboost has been been trouble free for the past month and 2,000 miles.... haven't had a reason to take it back to the dealer....

3.5 gen II EB here. Only 5000 miles so far but very happy. Wish it sounded like a V8, but boy does it get up and go. Towing is phenomenal.
