Default E85

Anyone else like an occasional dose of E85? Sure smells different and runs great! My 19 5.0 is no slouch, but it would 'rattle' at low RPM. That is actually pre-ignition. I ran two tanks of E85 out of curiosity and it must have cleaned things up. The low speed pre-ignition stopped and it's happy. I usually use 87 or 89 for everyday use. Yea, there is a mileage hit but so what.

People talk about miles per gallon typically, and it makes sense as long as each gallon of fuel has the same energy value.

That goes out the window with e85.

Need to look at cents per mile to compare e85.

With my 2019 STX SCREW 5.0, the CPM of E85 is the same as 91 octane. And 91 is easier to find.

E85 has an octane rating of 108. My '19 5.0 has a 12:1 compression ratio, this along with the computers advancing the timing make a difference in HP output and throttle response.

Mine is the same way. I run 87 most of the time but try to run a tank of E though once every month or two. I also drive super slow/easy in eco mode all the time but the knocking at low speeds is noticeable. Not concerned about it hurting the truck, I'm sure its fine at 1/20 throttle position. It does go away with the E or 91 though.

I run 87 unless the cost for E85 is 25% less. In the two or three tanks I have run E85, I experienced a MPG loss of about 22%. It sure does run better on it though! I've also heard that it's not good to let sit for long periods of time. Haven't been driving my truck much the last few months so I'll probably continue filling up with 87 octane just to be safe.

I love E85. Can't get it where I live but when I can get it I do. It runs much better, mpg takes a hit but when you are only getting 20 or less no big deal.

I have 3 gas stations near me that carry it so I run it 100% of the time. I have a 2018 regular cab 5.0 with a OZ tune. I am at 15.3 mpg and I drive it hard every day.

ever watch F1 or indycar racing? look at the exhaust pipes during the race. they are like new clean. I believe they run on 100% ethanol. I wish I had e85 near me.

No E85 near me, either. Closest seems to be about 75 miles away. Be interesting to try it...
