Default Dreaded Sticky Dash

‘20 STX SCREW

My black upper dash trim, storage stay bezel, and gauge cluster bezel are sticky to the touch. I purchased the truck brand new and have been cleaning the dash every time it becomes visibly soiled with dust, pet hair, anything that could stick to it. No success, the stickiness comes back.

I assume it’s due to heat and UV exposure, but I keep it out of direct sunlight whenever it’s parked. I tried a sunscreen for the front windshield, and I’ve had no luck. This happens in the cold months too.

Anyone have any luck with a replacement from a dealer? It is already warping at the defroster vents near the windshield, and it’s warped at the base of the windshield near the the steering wheel/gauge hump. Will a replacement still have the same issues, or is there an updated dash material that doesn’t melt?

Thanks,

Mike

Do you use anything on it? I use nothing, damp rag occasionally with no bad effects. I learned long ago, products on the dash evaporate and call all sorts of negative effects.

At first I just used a clean microfiber towel with water to get the dust off. After I learned the dash remained sticky, I used a dilution of water and simple green. Like a 10:1 mixture. I’ve never used any of the UV interior protectant products.

Wow, that actually is disappointing to hear. Has anyone ever detailed it? maybe we have different dash material? I have a Lariat 502a. Good luck, I certainly would be talking to the Dealer for warranty replacement, it sounds defective.

With some digging, I learned Lariat trims and above utilize a different material that isn’t prone to warping or “melting.” I don’t think it’s due to any chemicals used. I’ve never hit it with anything harsh. Just some simple green diluted to get the stickiness out of it. Dog hair, human hair, bugs, and anything else that can stick to it was sticking to it.

I’m aware there is a TSB repair for warped dash for XL-XLT trims up to MY 2019. There is a photo attached to the TSB, and it’s my dash, almost exactly. It states the factory warranty will cover it. I’ll snap some pictures. It’s common I believe on the lower end trims. I hope the 2020 is covered.

Good luck, I wouldn't tell them you applied Simple Green late in the frustration, it will only give someone an excuse.

Default Update

Local ford dealer service advisor said there’s a TSB out for model year 2020. Apparently a few years back there were a few 150’s on the lot that were checked. All of them had warped and sticky dashes. Only XLT and lower trim levels. They’re replacing the dash cover under the factory warranty. Not too sure if the material is different with the new dash. I ordered the sunscreen kit for all windows with the hopes of preventing the cab getting extremely hot.

Don't use degreasers on your interior. Use a dedicated interior cleaner like Griots interior cleaner or if its not real dirty, Griots interior detailer, detailer contains UV protection.
