Question Dramatic Oil Useage Variances?

Does anyone experience dramatic changes in oil useage from one change to the next? My truck used 1 QT of oil in the last 1,500 miles, which was over a three month period. It was much more city driving than I normally do, maybe 90%. The oil change before that I used no noticeable oil over 9,000 miles, which was 80% highway mileage over 6 months. Then the oil change before that it used a quart over 5,000 miles with mixed driving.

on rare occasion if I run the truck, let it sit a short time, and restart, I see a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust. Hard to replicate this. Only seen it a few times.

truck only has 62,000 miles and have been running Motorcraft full synthetic the whole time. Have a warranty through 75K miles but doubt I'd get any coverage given the changing useage.

any ideas? concerns?
