Is the door striker adjustable?
Hey guys,
I'd like to adjust the door strike on my driver door so that it closes just a bit tighter. Has anyone adjusted theirs? If so, how adjustable is it?
I looked it up in the service manual and it just mentions removing and reinstalling the striker. I need to know if it can be moved in and out. I also read somewhere about the bolts stripping easily. I'm assuming they are aluminum? Not sure if the warning was referring to the torx head stripping or the threads.
Also, the manual says to torque it down to 18 lb.ft. (25Nm). I can't seem to find a torque wrench that goes that low. I have a wrench that is rated for 50-250 lb.ft. The smaller ones I've seen are only lb.in. rated.
If anyone has adjusted theirs, I'd really appreciate hearing how it went.
Thanks!

Mark original position with a sharpie, or similar.
I did not torque them - just went by feel.

I adjusted both my front doors to help with the wind noise.
What I did at first is marked the original position with a sharpie and then loosen the two screws. Got a rubber hammer and knocked it in maybe 2 to 3mm not much.
I just tighten the screws back by hand was not worried about torquing them at all.

Hmmm...
So I tried adjusting the striker today. I loosened the 2 bolts but there doesn't seem to be much adjustment available. I held the striker in the furthest inward position as I retightened the bolts. It ended up in the exact same place it was so no improvement.
Is there another trick to doing this?

There is very little adjustment. Keep in mind that if you do adjust it in you may then experience the annoying "My door is hard to shut, I have to SLAM it for it to close properly" problem.
Thanks... All I'm trying to do is get the upper part of the door frame to pull tighter to the body. Right now, my drivers door jiggles going over bumps and the seals chatter a bit. The passenger side doesn't do it.

Typically if it's the upper part of the door that is out but the lower part is ok they will simply "tweak" the door a bit, basically bend the top in slightly. Best to be done by someone who knows what they are doing otherwise a broken door glass could result...not to mention a door out of whack.
