Default Door Lock Help

2019 Lariat passenger door wont lock or unlock with the fob or interior buttons. Only manually by reaching across and opening the passenger door from the inside. Should I replace the actuator?

You'll want to post more information for folks to be able to help out. When did this happen? Suddenly, or started a while back and now its completely kaput? What diagnostics have you performed to try and fix the situation? Don't immediately resort to the parts cannon. That can get expensive quick with no resolution.

Since the car locks manually, the lock mechanism is fine. You lock buttons are electrical buttons which turn on/off the actuator. It is either the actuator or an electrical problem. No harm in having the actuator on hand to do the job. But make sure you are getting power at the actuator before putting it all back together. You can test the wiring by simply plugging in the new good actuator and pushing the lock button. Good luck.

Pull the panel and check the wiring at the actuator first before buying anything. Lock issues usually come down to either a bad actuator or a break in the wiring harness. If the manual lock works, you know the latch mechanism is fine — it's electrical. Mate the actuator connector and look for voltage when you press the lock button. If you've got power but the actuator doesn't move, swap in a known-good actuator to test. If that works, you've got your answer. If you still get nothing, trace the wiring for breaks or bad connections. Door panels on 2019s aren't bad to pull if you take your time.

Power door lock actuator failureCampaign/NHTSA#
20M04

Look that up. I replaced 2 door lock actuators before Ford issued that customer satisfaction program about the door lock actuators. I had a 3rd failure after that came out and got it fixed by dealer at no charge.

Now only my driver door has the original door lock actuator, the other 3 doors have been replaced.

I Googled the above NHTSA#, and found a Ford Recall website. Might be worth a look. https://www.ford.com/support/recalls-details/f350/2017/

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately my truck is not covered by that campaign. After watching some videos it appears I have to disassemble the window and remove the door handle to access the lock actuator? Is this true? Even to simply test it for voltage? I replace a rear one a few years ago and it was very easy. Definitely didnt remove the glass.

you can probably access the connector to test by just removing the interior panel.

To remove the entire latch/lock actuator however requires removing the outside door handle cover and taping up the glass or removing it so you can remove the window guide blocking the latch/lock actuator.
