Default Does your steering wheel lock?

Hey guys, I wanted to know if the steering on my 2017 is supposed to lock when I shut my truck off. I bought it new in February, and it hasn't locked but only one time. I was pulling into a parking spot last week, I had the wheel turned all the way to the right when I pulled in, and left it that way when I shut the truck off. When I slid out the door, I had my hand on the wheel, and felt it lock, like most older vehicles. When I started the truck, it released. That was the one and only time. I took it to the dealer Saturday for horn issues, and asked the service rep if it was supposed to, but he had no idea.

Yup, that's normal. Freaked out the first time my auto start/stop kicked in, as when it shut off my steering wheel locked up on me while sitting at a red light. Unlocks right away with the engine started back up.

It shouldn't lock with auto off. As a matter of fact turning the steering wheel should immediately restart the engine. Also auto off shouldn't engage if the steering wheel is turned to the left when you stop. It's programmed to recognize that as an impending left turn across traffic and engine power should remain available.

I don't have the auto on/off feature on my truck. And it doesn't restart if I try to turn the wheel. It will still turn when it's shut off, but it is very hard to turn and I won't force it. TexasRedFish, what year is your truck? Does it lock every time?

When I took my truck to the shop (Joe Rizza Ford in Orland Park, IL), the service writer told me he wasn't sure if it was supposed to do that, but it's something I just need to get used to! ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Then why in four months time does it only decide to work one time and not any other time? This is why I hate dealing with service departments at dealers, no one knows what you're talking about, or they just don't want to deal with you because you in fact do know what you're talking about but they try to dumb you down.

Never checked for steering wheel locking so I went outside to see. Nope it doesn't lock.

It won't restart without auto on/off.

It is normal that the wheel does not lock, my 2010 Fusion does not either.

Mine doesn't lock with autostop, but power steering is obviously not there when the engine stops. With the steering input off center in either direction, autostop says "engine running due to steering input". I don't think the lock should engage with autostop.

With the key off, my steering wheel will lock. But it has to be turned a little to get the mechanical alignment to do so. Just like every other vehicle I've owned.
