Does everyone really need an e-locker?
Just wondering if there is anyone not ordering an e-locker? Seems like traction control would solve my needs as it is effective and perhaps safer than a locking axle (less sideways spinning). E-lockers are listed in the forum almost like standard equipment.
I plan to order a truck for commuting and occasional travel trailer towing (which I don't have yet). No off roading. Do I really need that little elocker **** to pull into paved campsites and commuting in S. Cal?
Thanks

The locker isn't for pulling a camper around paved roads. But as I always say, better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Plus, it's a selling point down the road (potential buyer might need it).
I think the reason why you see it so often is it's standard when you change the gear ratio. For example, when I went from 3.31 to 3.55 it automatically ads the locker. I don't think 90% of people actually need it, but I went with a 2wd so I welcome it. Also, it can make a huge difference trying to pull a boat out of the water if that matters to you.
My opinion? No. It's nice to have if you need it, but if you don't know if you'll need it chances are you probably don't. It would make your vehicle more marketable for resale.
I may be wrong, but I think the only option to not get a e-locker is a 3.31. Anything above that and the e-locker is automatic? If that's the case, you could possibly revise your question to "is a 3.31 rear suitable for me or should I go 3.55 or 3.73."
If you're solid that you're sticking with the 3.31, chances are you don't need a e-locker.

If you are not doing any off-roading then you should not need it. I got it with my newest truck because none of my previous vehicles had it and I do a decent amount of off-roading during hunting season here in central pa which till this day have not needed it. I also decided to go with it because I was spending $37k on a vehicle so why not get it? Also if you end up trying to sell your truck someone may or may not buy it just because of that option.

The EB3.5 4x2 standard axle is 3.15. It is rated to pull 10700 lbs. I'm thinking I won't need the elocker, but perhaps main worry is will I suffer on resale. Not sure if this group is representative of the general truck market and will be looking for something more macho in specs.

Consider a higher gear set? Ford's numbers aren't convincing? 10,700 lbs for 3.15 and 11,900 for 3.55. Truck will likely run out of payload before reaching either of those numbers, or so I've been told. You don't mind giving up MPGs? Can you explain your thoughts?
I'm playing devil's advocate. Really appreciate your feedback.
