Default Do You Remember?

I know some of you here are much younger than myself, I'm going to be 62 this year, however when I was young, getting a pickup truck meant no real nice accessories, like even my 2015 XL has on it. Your parents or grandparents bought a pickup to haul things, with a 3 or 4 speed manual, hand choke, hand crank windows, no air conditioning, metal dash, no seat belts, AM radio if any radio at all, and no carpet on the floor.
My 2015 F150 XL has cruise control, power windows, fog lights, automatic, air conditioned, power steering, nice stereo, etc.!
Back when I was a young kid, getting a "XL", like a 62, 63, 64, or 65 Galaxie XL meant a console, bucket seats, basically the top of the line car at that time. To think that trucks today, even base models, have so many nice features over what was offered many years ago! To those of you that remember the changes, isn't it is really amazing?
Enjoy your awesome new F150's!

My first truck was a 71 F100. "Three on the tree", Vinyl bench seat, No AC and crank windows. Did have the smoking wings and an AM radio with single speaker in the dash though. Even had the gas tank mounted inside the cab behind the seat.

Bought my first truck in 82, was an 81 F100 300ci in line 6 with a stick in the floor, bench seats and rubber flooring. I was just happy to have A/C. Truck was nice though, stepside with wooden floor bed, really like the look of the 80's - 90's stepsides. My 16 Plat on order will be my 6th Ford PU and the only mechanical issue I've ever had was replacing the starter on my 94 Flareside. Not everyone has the same experiences as me but it's why the 16 will be Ford vehicle #13 for me since 1980.

My grandpa had a 70-something F100 just like you described. 3-on-the-tree, mostly metal dash, single speaker AM radio, etc. I thought that truck was awesome.

My first truck was a 1985 Ram Stepside; this one:

I bought it in 1999 for $2600 I think. It had 89,000 one-owner miles on it. I really liked that truck, but at 9 MPG, when the fuel prices shot up and I started a 50 mile one-way commute, I was forced to sell it.

"Old Blue"
One of my early trucks was a '48 F-1.
Six cylinder engine - 95 HP, 3 speed trans column shift.
It had drivers side wiper and heater.
No turn signals or radio.
I had it in the mid '70's. My daily driver in between some old muscle cars.
Was a great truck.
