Hoping to upgrade my 2 inch 2017 xlt 3.5na cluster to a 4 or 8 inch cluster. As far as I know so far, one can replace their 2015-2020 cluster with a 8 inch lariat cluster (from 2019-2020(?)), and use FORscan to update the IPC, but milage can only be increased, so the cluster you buy has to be lower milage then your truck(?). My plan as of now is to try to find an 8 inch Lariat cluster at a salvage yard or eBay and do this myself. Has anyone done this? Apologies if theres already a thread on this, took a look but couldn't find one. Heres a video I found on it:
Thanks, have seen these. Looks nice. Trying to avoid spending $700. If I can find one at a salvage yard for $150-250 will be set. $350 on eBay. Poor and on a budget...lol.

I did it. I am happy with it. Granted, I only spent $530 (programmed and new cover) on mine. I have 3.5 with Nav, so the step-up from 4" to 8" was worth it for me, but IMO that $500 - $700 could be used towards a more useful mod or upgrade.
I did the 4" to 8" conversion about 2 months ago, found a guy online that does the programming and put a new cover on the cluster. Cost me $599, and to me it was worth it. Not sure about the DIY route, but I'm sure its possible. It needs the VIN programmed, and the mileage thing is correct, the new cluster can only be programmed up, not backwards according to him. So a lower mileage cluster is a must.
I just did it for the cost of the cluster. Found it on lkq for a couple hundred. Programming with forscan for free. Don't pay hundreds more unless you want it customized. Like you said, just find one with lower miles than you. The one I found has a couple thousand more than what I had. I didn't care so I left it. Just have to change my oil a little sooner to get back to my every 5k routine since my miles are now off!
