Default Display Brightness

The display is set to auto but at night it stays very bright. I have to hit the dim for the dash once then the display goes dark and stays this way until I restart. Anyone else see this behavior.

Yes, and I'll tell you how to fix it....well, if you have the 8" display.

The auto setting only changes the display from the preset Day and preset Night setting. You simply have not set your Night setting.
1. Change it from Auto to Night.
2. Go to Brightness and adjust it to your preferred Night brightness level.
3. Back out from there and change it to Day and adjust that brightness level (if you want it different than how it is set).
4. Change it back to Auto from whatever is now displayed (which will be either Night or Day, depending if you adjusted the day setting).

Once you have done this, you can test it by turning on your headlights to see it change.

Thanks for that info. I was just fiddling with the display trying to get it to dim. Ended up just turning it off.

I’m excited to try this fix. I always seem to forget about this issue till it’s dark and I’m too busy to try to play with it.

Set day and night same thing very bright at night. Its not the white screen like day but the black screen but very bright. Again I hit the dim beside the left knee it lowers. Very annoying.

A few questions to try to help you further:
1. Did you try setting the night brightness as dim as possible?
2. Are you adjusting the night brightness on the radio, rather than trying to do it via the dimmer switch by your knee?
3. Just to confirm, we are talking about the brightness of your radio, not your instrument panel where the speedometer is?

Try this:
On the screen in Display, there are 3 items (Brightness, Mode, Auto Dim)
Set brightness to Auto and Auto Dim to off. Auto Dim adjusts the screen brightness based on ambient light conditions. It may be influencing your screen brightness.

Ford once again complicating things that worked perfectly fine before... Guess they've never heard of "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...

1. Yes
2. Radio
3. Radio, it goes to the dark night screen but is at the brightest setting but when I touch the dim switch by left knee it lowers.

I would take it to the dealer. If you set the Night intensity in the radio at lowest setting, it should always default to that setting when you turn on your lights. Something is amiss with your system. I set mine and it always goes to the dim setting I have programmed in the radio for nighttime.
