I have a brand new 2018 on the way with the 7-speaker system, and I’m not sure I want to upgrade the speakers again just because Im not sure aftermarket speakers really do that much on a stock head unit.
If you replaced with speakers with less impedance (resistance to power) and higher sensitivity, made to replace stock speakers when using the stock headunit, the difference is huge.

I too enjoy data. However there is not enough money to be made for aftermarket speaker manufacturers to compare every stock speaker system to their product lineup. No one else is going to waste their time setting up to measure sound levels and quality of an obviously inferior factory stock speaker. I have been replacing speakers and sound systems since my 67 VW bug that I put in an 18" woofer 50 years ago. I had to build my own amp in those days. My favorite test when replacing low bidder "made in China" brand factory speakers is to hold a screwdriver to the magnet and laugh at the results. I have had very few vehicles that came with acceptable speakers from the factory and my 7 speaker F150 was no exception. If the speakers do not have a name brand on them, they are low bidder products and can vary from when the last bid came in lower. The factory upgrade to optional Sony is a small improvement, but alas Sony makes some cheap chit sometimes too.

Nothing against Kicker as they have a really cool name... but their speaker/amp systems aren't very high end.

It is unfortunate but anecdotal is all you are gonna get.

thanks. That is good stuff. What do you recommend for replacement 6.5” door speakers? I have the Kickers in my truck and they are OK. I have Alpine Marine speakers in my boat and they are really good. What do you recommend to run off the stock head unit?

As was said before in this thread, look at 5%20stars[img]/Best-Car-Speakers.html?&pg=1]Crutchfield. When you add the free adapters they end up cheaper than elsewhere. Focals are good. Kappas in my last truck were good, I went with Polk partially due to the waterproofness (The F150 doors are pretty leaky as can be seen by the frozen door mechanism recall). Each manufacturer has lower priced versions as well as mid and upper priced speakers, but they are all way better than stockers, so pick your price range or look for a sale!

Edit: not sure why my link to Crutchfield came out weird. I had a page for specific F150 door speakers...
