Details on stock (non-Sony) speakers?
 

Anyone know the brand/model of the stock speakers? I'm trying to look up details (frequency response, resistance, power requirements, etc). Trying to feed that into a decision on whether I replace just the speakers, or add an app as well. I'm not a huge audiophile so I'm hoping to just get away with speaker upgrade.

I have seen a lot of threads on upgrades, but haven't been able to find details on the OEM speakers.

Don't know the exact specifics, but they're junk .You wouldn't want to add an amp to them, as the stock radio is alredy enough to make the distort. I recently replace my fronts with a JBL club 6x9 component set and have a set of JBL club 6.5 coax in the rear doors. Both sets running off the sync 3 system, no amp (yet). Sounds much, much, better.

Ok cool. Yeah my plan was either speaker upgrade, or speaker upgrade *and* amp upgrade. I wouldn't supply an amp to them, that'd be pointless. But I did want to get a sense of whether I can get the sound I'm looking for with a simple speaker upgrade. I'll take a look at the ones you did. Did you do it yourself or have someone install it?

Did it myself. Got them from crutchfield so I got all the needed accessories. Mounted the cross overs inside the radio stack using double sided body panel tape, as you cannot run a wire back from the door easily with the way the connector in the door boot is made. Used a FOR11MKi wire loom to split out the audio out and run it to the crossover, then from the cross over back into the factory wiring for the doors, then ran a new wire up to the a pillars to connect the cross over to the new tweeters. In the future I will add small for channel amp for the doors/tweeters, and a sub/amp for the the rear. Def get a 6x9 for the fron doors. I did have the club 6.5' speakers in there at first, but they lacked the lower mid bass.

I'm assuming because the 6x9 is a physically bigger speaker, it has a better frequency response at the lower ranges?

Also did you replace the front/mid dash speaker as well? I assume the components are for front L/R

Yes, larger surface area, more efficient at the lower frequencies. Voice coils are probably the same size as the 6.5s though.

XLs don't include a center speaker .I would have left it disconnected is it had on though. i don't really care for center speakers unless it's a home theater.

The stock front door speakers actually play down to 40 hz when EQ boosted. I know this because I played test tones and measured SPL. They are junk (at higher volumes and frequencies) but they will likely play lower than many quality replacements.

Yeah it may be a combination of multiple frequencies and volume. I have noticed that when I play certain songs, I don't get those deeper frequencies (when compared to other vehicles with better soundsystems), and figure higher quality speakers can drive those frequencies better.
