Default Deer Strike

I hit a deer yesterday while driving to work on a gravel road at about 45 mph. The deer hit the front left corner and got punted all the way to the opposite side of the road. I got stopped just in time to see the deer get up and walk away in my review mirror. Got out and checked my new 2016 and there was no damage. The 2016 held up better than my 2012 under very similar hits.

OK let me see if I get this straight you hit a deer at 45 miles an hour the deer goes across the road gets up and walks away as if nothing is wrong, and there is no damage to the truck . Do I have it straight?

The last time I had a big doe at 45 mph the deer was instantly dead and there was $3100 worth of damage to the truck.

It was a glancing blow off the front left corner. The deer almost got turned around after jumping out of the woods into my path. At the time of impact the deer was running almost the same direction I was driving.

Was in my boys Ram last year and we hit a deer in a similar situation. No damage for us either! A little deer hair on the tire and the dirt cleaned off the truck down most of the right side. Glad you came away damage free.

We have large corn fed deer in central Iowa. But I will take the deer over the ditch every time. I have several relatives that have totaled their trucks buy choosing to put it in the ditch rather than hit the deer.

Had two animal incidents last year

2013 F-150 SC with a tow at 0200 in the morning. Came around a curve on a two lane. Antelope in the middle of my lane; steep hill to the right, significant drop off to the left. On the brakes as hard as I dared, moved to the left as much as possible, 2 wheels on gravel, 2 on pavement. Animal ran right in front of me. POW! Last I saw him, he was eye level, feet towards me and sailing off into the darkness. $2,500 in damage.

Not a month later was driving an '05 Ranger pick-up 4x4 on an expanded 4-lane (just opened from 2-lane to a passing lane in both directions) at about 0900. Deer comes out from the ditch on my right. Totally in control and slowing down hard, watching the deer very closely as it moved into the left lane in on my side of the road. Watching in case he turned around. Damn, a second deer jumps out from behind a bush on the right and once again, POW! Fortunate for me, the deer slipped on the pavement as he attempted to get out of the way which lowered center mass to just below the bumper. The deer did not survive. $250 in damage.

I've got to stop this "car hunting." It's too expensive.

Compared to some hunts in Texas for big bucks, those are cheap!
