Has anyone with a 2016 f150 Lariat tried to hooked up brake light bar that mounts under the tailgate. Had one on my 2004 f150 with no problems. I have the trailer tow package and if you plug it in to the 4 way trailer plug or the heavy duty plug it shows I have a trailer hooked up and cancels the blind spot indicator feature. Next problem if you try to hard wire at the tail lights it requires a 4 wire converter because the brake and turn signals have a separate wire and your dealing with 5 wires. I got a wiring diagram of the tail light section from a Ford dealership and it also shows an additional wire for the failed bulb feature. I found one 4 wire converter but had a foot note that said don't use if you have the failed bulb feature. Have talked to the Ford dealership, a place that deals with truck accessories,a place that sells trailers and even called the so called tech people at two manufactures that make the light bars and no one has hooked one up on a 2016 or knows anything about this situation. The light I purchased also has the backup light feature. Kind of frustrated and open for some suggestions. Thanks in advance; dcarl

I'm looking to add one to my 2016, as well. I'll post what I find.

I'm just thinking... Why would it matter if you have a 4-wire or 5-wire taillight? If you tap into the wire feeding the turn signal, the same for the brake wire, and last for the reverse, why should it matter? Is it only for the dead bulb indication? I have LED's on my King Ranch, so I'm doubting I'll replace burned out LED bulbs as long as I own it.

Default Still not sure.

Thanks smokewagun for the reply. After checking again with a Ford dealership with no luck I think I'll try to contact who ever makes the 5 to 4 wire converters and get their take on this and why they have a warning on not using if you have the failed bulb feature. Will it just not work or could you damage something electrical by sending voltage to the wrong place.

Any updates? I looked at the diagrams I could find. I think the 5 wire you refer to is for the backup lighting. It looks like the fifth wire accommodates trailer backup. Just curious.

Looked into wiring. It either plugs into the 4-pin, or is hard wired. Still shuts off the BLISS if through the 4-pin.

This topic was brought up awhile ago and mentioned where you have to wire into the truck so it does not show a trailer hooked up but I do remember on the newer trucks you can not tap the trailer plugs. Might try a search.
