Default dashcam install 2016 XLT

The wifes SUV was totaled a few months back. We didn't have a dashcam in either of our rides at the time.... and I wish we had. We could have proven fault to the insurance company. In the end each side accepted 50/50 because we had no proof of what happened.
Well today I installed a dashcam in the wifes new suv and my f150...so hopefully we won't have to deal with anything like that again. Install was pretty simple and took maybe 20min with a beer break. I ended up drilling one hole in the front of the center console interior to run the power usb cable (see pics). I ran the pwoer usb wire through the console, across under the glove-box, up the passenger a-pillar, and tucked it in the headliner back across the windshield.

Dashcam: Viofo A119 w/128gb sd card. More info on the camera can be found on the review blog/video by Techmoan, here: Techmoan - Techmoan - Dashcam Review: Viofo A119 - Simple Capable Capacitor Camera

The A119 is a really nice little camera. I had that one for several years in my tundra and in the SO's GLK. It just sat there, did its job, totally drama free without any fuss. thats what i liked about that camera. I just purchased a blackvue for the F150 plan on installing it soon.

how did you run your wires?
I plan to remove lower camera/mirror trim, run the wire up into the headliner from there down the passenger A pillar, and into passenger fuse panel.

Looks great. Definitely interested in seeing a pic of the wire coming out through the console and how its ran exactly.

thanks it's a great little camera & I love 1080p @ 60fps.
for the wires: from the camera I tucked it in the headliner across the front, down the pass a pillar, under the glove-box, and then through the console into the console storage area (see pics)

which end of the wire were you wanting to see? I don't know if I can get a pic of the wire running from the console to the under glove-box area because it's tucked way up in there.

Got ya. So basically you just have it "Hard wired" (plugged) into the USB port inside the center console arm rest/storage area? Then run it towards the passenger side seat area, up that pillar, tucked under the headliner and right to the windshield camera?

More or less. I came from the center console plug straight forward through the console. I made a right turn and ran under the glove box, then turned up and went up the a-pillar. At the top of the a-pillar I ran it across the top of the windshield (wire tucked under headliner). I'll post a picture tonight or tomorrow that will help show my wire path

Huh? Why not just run it from the fuse box in the front passenger right kick-wall straight up the right side pillar and over to the mirror behind the headliner?

I did some super poor MS paint photo-shop to show the basic routing of the usb power wire. I hope it makes sense...

Good question. There were several reasons why I didn't truly hard-wire it using a fuse tap. The main reason being...I just really didn't want to. I refuse to use fuse taps but instead in my past vehicles I have always installed my own accessory electrical system using a blue-sea fuse block in the console to run toys (ham radios, dash cams, etc). For this vehicle I'm not planning on installing a bunch of accessories like I did on my last truck....so I didn't want to mess with installing a full electrical system just for a dashcam and gps. I would rather use the 12v socket in the console as my main source of power for any accessories I eventually install.

If I ever decide to install all my toys (or any high power toys), then I'll move everything over to being truly hard-wired using my full electrical system.
