Default Dash cam?

Hi guys,

2018 F-150 STX. Talk to me about front and rear dash cams. Are they a 100% recommendation? If so, which brand is the least visible, cleanest install? Bonus if you recommend somebody near Glendale, CA.

Thanks!

I have a Viofo A129 Pro 4K I've been using for 4 years. Easy installation, parking mode, good video day and low light, and it's worked pretty well. It can record audio, or audio can be turned off. It's on a GPS mount which allows it to record speed, location, and sync time. Connects to an Android/Apple app with a WiFi connection in the camera and can also be set up/controlled with a screen menu. I mounted it on the windshield just to the right of the rearview mirror, and ran the power cable under the headliner and passenger side A piller to a fuse tap in the passenger footwell fuse panel. The power cable connects to a constant power source, one that turns on and off with the engine (triggers parking mode), and a ground which is next to the fuse panel. The only issues I've had with it were on hot sunny days in the desert (110+ degrees) when it shut down to keep from overheating. It's important to get a quality high-speed SD card to go with it. A rear camera is available for it but I don't have it.

Ford dealers have one that is available on the Ford accessory web site. I forget which brand.

I’ve been using the 70mai 4K Dash Cam A800S with Sony IMX415, Front and Rear, with Free 128GB SD Card, Built in GPS, Super Night Vision, 3'' IPS LCD, 24H Parking Mode, ADAS, Loop Recording, iOS/Android App Control.

Not too fancy but does the job, easy to install. I use it for highway driving and when pulling my trailers. When I leave the truck, I just unplug it and remove it from windshield, store it in my onboard safe.

I'm installing a Viofo a229 today...where is the fuse panel you mentioned, and which fuse should I tap? I also have a 2018.

thanks!

The fuse panel is behind the kick panel outboard of the front passenger footwell. That panel just snaps on and off. Behind it is the fuse panel, and a pretty obvious ground screw. I'll have to go look and see which circuits I tapped into.

Lots of threads on this. I found a recommendation for the Dongar adapter on them. It connects to your auto dimming mirror and powers any camera’s USB connection. Dongar.tech I’m using a Garmin Mini, which I see they actually sell packaged together now.

Same here. I've had mine for four years and no issues what so ever. I have a Blackvue DR650S in my 2014 Mustang. Had it about 8 years now with no issues.
