I believe android 5.0 is rhe minimum. Make sure you have enabled android auto in the android auto preferences in sync. You should see a new buton at the bottom of the sync screen for android auto once everything is working.

If you do not see that and you are connected with a USB cable try a different USB cable or you may have you phone set to charge only when connected to the USB cable and the truck. if it is when its connected to the cable pull down from the top of the phone like you are getting into settings, and you will see USB connection options. you'll want to allow this to be able to read media/photos. I think its the top option under USB options. I hope this helps.

So, Problem solved, but really I cant tell you why.

ultimately its a bad cable or something like that.

I have 7 usb cables in my hand right now (mostly different). 6 of them are (were) still in the packaging.

Out of the 7 cables, 1 worked perfectly, the UI lit up and everything is happy.

I plugged one of them in and it looked like its going to work, but it started switching, re-synching and then the Truck started saying the device was incompatible.

I will say, the cable thats working, looks like its a thicker gauge, so maybe the wires are better.

Moving forward, how does one tell if its the right kind of cable?

Now, I know a FRIEND who has an iPhone who had similar issues charging his phone. he had 1 cable that would charge, but 4 others that wouldnt.

but the 4 that wouldnt, worked just fine in his wife's iPhone.

there has to be something to test these things to say, this is a better cable then the others.

My answer would be "use the cable that came with the device"

Not an issue with what the OP provided, but with the software as Ford designed it. I have an iPhone running iOS 10. Since the update yesterday, Sync now automatically raises my phone ringer to max as soon as it connects. That creates a problem later when I'm out of my truck and my phone starts blasting the ringer at an inopportune time. It NEVER did this while on Sync 1.0. And I hate it. Wish there was a way to go back to 1.0. Having CP is not worth it to me.

I've read that others were having this same issue before 2.2, but not me. Seems the others have solved this by disabling the iPhone sounds setting where you adjust the ring volume with the side buttons. I did that too just to make it bearable, this this is a sloppy workaround, as it prevents me from using the side buttons to actually adjust the volume when I really want to (which is several times a day).

Is there a way to go back to 1.0? Contrary to others' experiences, it worked pretty flawless for me. I just got caught up in all this CP stuff. Kicking myself for it now.
Bluetooth volume has always been an issue. This latest approach is the best yet. I think it is a good idea (and not sloppy) to keep the ringer volume separate from audio volume.
How often do you change your ring volume?
if this upsets you maybe you should sell the truck

On the mobile Apps, I see Spotify BUT NOTHING else.

so what am I missing? how do I get Google maps to show up on the UI?

I am sure its something stupid, but man its eluding me.
You might need a new usb cable, get a decent one. Even if it works for chargeing/some other stuff, it can be picky. Oh but make sure you have installed the Android Auto app from the play store!

I has the same issue. I swapped to my OEM charging cord and have had no issues since. I thought I had a fairly robust cord, but I had only used it for charging up to that point, so I guess not.

"Sloppy" was just my opinion of course, but Apple accounts for that opinion by giving us the option to separate or combine ringer and media volume via the side buttons. Sync seems to agree more with you and therefor makes us choose between a blaring ringer or separating the volumes. Just would be nice for Ford to follow suit with the optionality. Some use it, some don't...great. I personally change my ring volume usually 3 times a day.

if this upsets you maybe you should sell the truck
Not sure of your intention with this comment, so I'll leave it alone.

I was impatient as well and installed the updte files for my non nav unit in my F150. The install appears to have worked because i have android auto now, but the sync menu still says i hae version 1.0 installed. Did I do something wrong? I have connected to two different wifi networks and checked for updates and also have logged into ford owner on my computer and nothing jas changed. Also, android auto or my galaxy s6 seems to be a little glitchy because google music kept playing while i was on a phone call in private mode even after disconnecting usb cord. Anyone else having these troubles?

Unhappy Thank you for the info on Sync 3

I appreciate your info an the Sync 3 and Android Auto status. I am
new to this system (owned truck for two weeks). I did not know
Ford was such a "foot dragger" with on board electronics, SAD.
