It's not a screen mirroring thing like Chromecast. Don't expect it to work like that.

After 2 weeks of waiting for my sync to changeover to 2.2 on the screen and no Gracenote version, I decided to download the files and try again. Got everything loaded on a 4gb thumb drive and this time I decided to go driving while it updated. Put it in and it started, it did it's thing, said something about part 2, reset and continued. About 5 minutes later I got a memory full message. I pulled the thumb drive out of the right usb and put it back in the left one, and the process started again. However, this time after the part 1 restart and part 2 beginning I never got the memory full message, I got the update finished. Drove home and shut the truck off for about 20 minutes, went back out, restarted and got the system update message. Checked the About Sync and sure enough it shows v2.2, and the Gracenote version. I grabbed my phone and plugged it in and about 15 seconds later I had Android Auto up on the screen!

Updated both my 2016 f150 and escape to 2.2 without any issues. Each one took about 20 minutes. Android auto worked right away. Changed the USB ports on both vehicles for my wife to use apple car play. Both app's are working fine at this time without any problems. The only thing I found I don't care for on the Andoid app is that the Google maps does not bring in your favorite places and there is no place to save a favorite on the screen. Other than that, they are working great

From my brief experience with AA, it allows the use of Google maps for navigation, as well as texting via voice, and making phone calls through the vehicle's display, not the phone. When AA is active my phone won't use other apps. There may be other options, but that's all I've figured out how to use.

Have to say, I was having a lot of issues with my 17xlt just getting the radio to just have Bluetooth audio work, yet alone have the USB device be detected. Use source button in middle and it would cut out and you could never get anything but silence. I forced the 2.2 update Thursday night and have been trying to make it not work, all I can say is whatever ford did.....THANK YOU!!!! Its perfect now.....
