No, you don't need to have T-Mobile or even own a cell phone. You drive by a T-Mobile cell site that's transmitting next to L-band and it overloads the front end of the sirius radio.

Ford's tech is too hard to use (see above,) update, configure, and then re-update. Ford is stuck in the 1990's with what they consider "stat of the art." Ever heard of plug and play? Ford hasn't.

Man, you are going to have a rough 6 years telling everyone about the POS you bought. How much did you pay for it? 75k?

Who wants to test V2.2 NON NAVIGATION update for me? Looking for the first volunteer for real world testing. You either need to be running an Android or have the new USB already for CarPlay. Send me a PM. I have run several upgrades on the bench.

I have nav and not inclined to guinea pig on mine but how do you do updates if you do not do the wifi update method? I would like to hardline that stuff in there.

Looking to use CP OR AA? If CP do you have the hub for it?

I can confirm the USB install process is smooth for 2.2 Nav APIM's, not sure about non-nav.

I have a 2017 with Sync3 and I can confirm that the Apple Carplay works. I just set it up after reading this thread. Just the texting interface makes it completely worth the hardware upgrade for you 2016 folks. Just do it, it'll be worth it if you are guilty of texting and driving (as most of us likely are).
