Default Cruise Control Issues

Haven't found anything but.... Anybody else have issues with or remember seeing any threads about
1) Cruise control buttons not working all the time. They seem to work fine at the beginning of a drive but then after 15 or so minutes they will stop wortking.
2) Cruise randomly stops working like when you press cancel or touch the brake pedal. Might stay on 2 minutes or 20 minutes.

I hate to take it to the dealer but I have less than 1500 miles left on warranty and now is the time to do it if I have to.

Steering wheel button problems are usually (but not always) caused by a clockspring issue. The 2015-2016 F150 clocksprings were not the most robust design.

Ugh. I wasn't sure if it would be that but since everything goes through so many modules now. Guess it's time to schedule an appointment.

Thanks!

Unfortunately they were not able to repeat the issue after driving it for about 30 miles and there was nothing when they check IDC/CDC/SMS, blah blah blah... I guess I will have to live with it since my warranty expires in 900 miles.
I figured it would be tough to duplicate since it is so random.

I've seen only a handful of few clock spring problems, and that's across all generations on this forum that have them. What makes them "not the most robust design"?

Try and talk to your dealership about this problem and at least make it known/ a record of this being an issue and maybe they can bend some rules for warranty a little bit down the road? Depends on the dealership really cause I have had them deny me warranty on my master cylinder that just up and failed barely outside of bumper to bumper. That being said are you experiencing any issues other than cruise control? I noticed for me the cruise would sometimes not set on the first button presses or randomly cancel, but I also had issues with changing the volume on the radio via the steering wheel buttons it would sometimes change the input mode of the radio from FM to AM or CD etc. it also got hard to reset my trip meter when I would fill up the gas tank. After I replaced my clock spring I havent had issue since. What I am trying to narrow down is, is the problem isolated to the left switch pack on the steering wheel (including menu functions on the cluster) is it the left and right switch pack or is it just the cruise control that is showing symptoms. That is info that may help your dealer identify the problem

It's not a Ford warranty so I don't think talking to them will help. But they did make good notes on the ticket of everythig they tried.

The only buttons effected are cruise control. Most of the time they work but then some times none of them in the cruise cluster will do anything. Odd issue but that's the luck of the draw.
They didn't charge me for the time they spent trying to diagnose it, so I'm glad for that.

Oh is it one of the extended warranty plans? I have a 16 f150 and it really wasn't hard for me to replace the clock spring. If you feel ambitious and want to do this yourself I can take the time to find and post the work instructions on how to disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel etc. If memory serves it was only about $85-90 from my local dealership. Depending on your driving style it may be worth it to just wait a while and see if the problem worsens to be sure of what the root cause is because just "shotgunning" a clock spring, while a good guess, may just be a waste of time and money.

Update on my cruise control ordeal.

Took it to the dealership and they had it for 4 or 5 days. Never could duplicate the issue and there were no codes to be read. But I've taken a couple of long (1600 miles) trips and it hasn't happened again.

I have the same issue with my radio controls on the wheel. They normally won't work right for me, but occasionally do. When I took it in, then first couldn't replicate it, then they tried one last time and they saw it. They then replaced the button module. It worked for a couple of weeks and then started acting up again in exactly the same way. The other obvious culprit would be the clock spring. I have also read that those are more intermittent, which makes sense when you consider how they work. The part is ~$100 and supposed to be pretty easy to replace so I may just do it myself instead of doing the dance with the dealer by dropping it off, they can't replicate, yada yada yada. If you google ford steering wheel controls you will see that its not an uncommon problem.
