Cooling Seats issue and TSB feedback
#5191
It's my first day
My position is 2015 - 2017 cooled seats with the SeatGuru's kit is the best way to go, even if you own a 2018.

Yeah that pretty well sums it up. In these 2018's there is no cooling for the seat back; only the seat bottom, and even then it's just blowing cabin air at the bottom of the seat at cabin temperature. It's as if Ford found a good discount on gen 1 xbox cpu fans. It is noticeably-immediately worse. To the 2018 owners who think the new system works well, I'd question whether they even owned a 2015 to 2017 F150 with proper cooled seats before hand. The new style 2018 ventilated seats do actually vent and are better than old vehicles without these systems; however, to say 2018 ventilated seats are better than 2015 to 2017 actively cooled is laughable.

Tim and I dealt directly with Ford Engineers to get BOTH intake and exhaust ducts, but they only supplied the intake "sock" as a solution via TSBs and production through 2017 models. While this introduced cooler air into the TED for cooling, all the exhaust from the TED remained trapped within the seatback cavity....sub-optimizing the system operation. They completely eliminated the TEDS in the 2018 re-design..... using ventilation vs. cooling for Summer and wired heat pads to do the heating....
That is the "rest of the story" for newer forum members so you don't have to search endlessly to understand how we GOT where we are on the seat front....pun intended..... AZPLAT....

I'm in a 2018 rental in Nevada with the new style ventilated seats (no TED). They seriously suck. They're worse than pre TSB 2015 F150 cooled seats. It makes more noise and that's it. There is no cooling at all. What little actual ventilation there is, seems to be very poor / insignificant. If I bought a 2018 F150 I'd sure want to find 2015 to 2017 cooled seats or retrofit in a TED.
One more thing 2017 F150's are better at than 2018's.

After I saw your post I tested it like you with a kleenex. I think you are right....It seems to suck the air through the seat and not actually blow air out of the seat. Frustrating as I thought the 2018 seat redesign feels so much more comfortable than the 2015-2017. This was why I waited so long to trade my 2014. They are more comfortable but I will have to wait until it warms up to see what level of "cooling" actually occurs.

warm air into cooler air (summer) and cool air into warmer (winter) via the TED unit. Ford felt that the 2018 replacement ventilated/heat pad solution was equal or superior in performance.... judge for yourself...AZPLAT...

Quick question, I have a 2015 where the seat cooling is not blowing well at all and took it in for repair under warranty. They said Ford "designed new fans" and that they we were in short supply so it would be a few weeks before they could repair it. Are they actually giving me a fix that works or is it removing some of the cooling functionality? Thanks!
