Ford Service,

I am curious to know why would trucks built after the date of a cooled seat fix only be outfitted with the new TED design in the driver's seat and not the passenger seat as well?

Ford is obviously aware that the design doesn't work so why continue to build and install that part when a modified version exists?

Thanks.

Money savings, and hoping people don't catch on. That's the only reason I can come up with.

Jason - assuming you are correct and only the drivers seat is being shipped with the seat cooling TSB on 2016 models, you answered the question yourself.

Because the design doesn't work! Why spend good money after bad and retrofit 2 seats?

However it will prevent drivers seat from overheating. Since most owners of the cooled seats don't use the feature, or don't use it long enough to realize there is a problem, they're good to go until they get an effective redesign.

So took my King Ranch in for its first oil change and the ACC recall. Showed my service writer the TSP for the seats. She said she had never heard of the TSP, but would not have time to look at it today since they had to remove the seats to evaluate the cooling. Hey wait a minute, I thought you had never heard of this TSP......

Finalized my decision on just waiting on the parts from here versus letting them install the "upgraded TED". My survey is complete.....

Actually she was wrong. The only thing they need to do to diagnose it is turn on the seat cooling and listen for the fan to start running. If it's running then it's ok to do the TSB. And at no time, evening during the repair does the seat need to be removed. Read TSB 2015-0154 it's pretty clear.

AbitaPro,

I am in a loaner truck right now that was built on Oct 13, 2015. The driver seat has the TSB issued part installed in the driver's seat and not the passenger seat. I was referring to the original TED design that prompted the sock/snorkel fix to be designed. The passenger seat is equipped with what appears to be the original TED design (no snorkel in place), which Ford knows doesn't work because they came up with the sock snorkel.

I think Ford is going with the fact that the current snorkel fix is the fix and no other modifications are necessary. Do you know differently? I myself am hoping for a better repair.

I was trying to figure out from the Ford Service guy on this thread, Chad, if he knew why Ford would only equip the driver seat with the TED fix and leave the passenger seat equipped with the original TED design. I wonder if the manual in the truck is updated to state only the driver seat cools. It baffles me that they would continue to manufacture trucks with the original TED design which they obviously know doesn't work since they came out with a "fix" and stuck it in the driver's seat and sent it out to the masses to fix the seat.

Does the dealership get paid by ford to do this repair work?
If so, why wouldn't they want to do this repair?
It seems like guaranteed money to me.

They don't allow enough hours to cover the time it takes IMO.

0.6 for one seat. 0.8 for both seats. Can they not add?

and yet, the mustang tsb shows 1.3 hours for both seats....

Ford seems confused on this one.

and to add to the confusion, why do they have the option of 1 or 2 for the TSB? It's pretty obvious that both don't work....

EDIT. Maybe the one is for the 2016 trucks with only the drivers side installed, like Jason has....makes a little sense, I guess.

Doing it for the first time probably takes more the .6 hrs for one and .8 hrs for two, but once you know how the seatbacks open up it shouldn't take any longer then Ford allows.
