Default Open box adventure!

I took a chance on an open box purchase for one of the E&G console vaults from AT. I talked to the sales rep Scott #519 who was extremely helpful. He was able to see some pics that I couldn’t. For reference, the ad said that the “corner was slightly bent” and open box items may be missing “non-essential hardware”. I have some metal working knowledge and tools so I wasn’t too worried as long as it was in working order. Scott said from the pics, it looked like it would be simple to re-bend the metal. He even wrote in my account that I had 10 days to return if I wasn’t satisfied. Thank goodness he did because the website says open box item sales are final.
So I watched the install video, and got excited for my vault to arrive.
Got it!
Open the box aaaaaaannnnnnnnddddd...
Yep, the frame was bent a little more than a little, but honestly, that wasn’t the problem. The box was missing the entire mounting plate that goes under the console. AAAAAANNNNNNDDDDDD...
It was locked.
With no key.
Or combination.

So I called back promptly in the morning and spoke with Jessie? #283. I told him my tale and mentioned that Scott had noted in my account that I could return it. I was afraid I’d have to pay return shipping, but they took good care of me and sent some UPS labels. Currently waiting on the refund to process but overall not really a bad experience, just a gamble that didn’t work out.

Sooooo, if you buy an open box item, make sure you at least ask if they can give you a return window.

Thanks for reading. I’ll post when I get another.

I think I purchased the EXACT same one a few months ago! When I bought it, the description didn't say anything about a bent corner or anything missing. It stated that the lock mechanism was upside down. Figured it would be an easy fix, so I ordered it. It arrived in the exact condition you described, and the customer service reps argued that all of their open box deals come with no mounting hardware. I actually had to escalate the call to speaking to a manager before they would agree to take it back. They ended up refunding me all but the original amount that I paid for shipping. Not real pleased with that situation, but at least they took it back.

I’m curious to see how my refund goes. That is why I haven’t bought anything else yet. Waiting to see...
