Default Console Light

Okaaaaay, sorry for the boring question...... I remember reading some where here that someone put their smart phone on video and confirmed that the console storage box light turned off when the lid was closed.

So tonight I noticed in my Lariat that light doesn't seem to go out. Not as soon as you close the lid. Not when the truck is shut off or when the doors are locked and the interior lights have faded off. Does anyone know if there is a switch on the lid or latching mechanism that is supposed to turn that light off? Otherwise, what controls that light or how is it supposed to turn off?

Thanks in advance for your answers...

It eventually does go off as it is on the BS (Battery Saver) circuit.....If you want to, remove the rear cup holder and you will see the light down in there attached facing the inside of the console...held in place by small plastic prongs.... Since the cup holder is removed you wont need to open the console lid. Simply remove the ambient light from the prongs and you ll be able to see when it goes out. Its on a simple 2 wire system, + and -.
Your front cup holder is 3 wires, with the one in the middle being the LIN data communication line...for reference

So then it is always on until the battery saver circuit times out and turns off unnecessary power.
I guess Fords rational must be that it is easier to work it this way than to have some kind of cheap switch that can cause grief down the road and also save the cost of switch itself?

Thanks for your answer. It helps.

I never found a switch. Now the ambient light in the media bin is exactly the same BUT there is a switch that is activated by the sliding door...same with the glove box...switch activated. When I get some free time and finish my ambient lighting install, I plan to work on an oem functioning under hood light, bed light system glove box increased output, and the flow thru console with increased light output and a gravity switch.

That was me

And it was the opposite - the video showed the bucket light stayed on. Only the front sliding tray turned on / off. Someone who was adding the console to their truck was asking so I took a quick video for them.

It just seems odd that Ford would leave it unswitched. However a tiny led bulb would draw next to nothing and not be significant enough to worry about.

Ah, thanks, so I had it backwards. The older I get the softer my brain gets but then my vehicles get nicer.
