Default Complete disappointment this weekend.

Decided to give my truck a little long overdue TLC this weekend. Took it to the hand wash car wash and soaped it up really good. Pulled into the detail bay and did a full exterior detail with wax, chrome cleaner, tire shine, and plastic trim restorer. Man I was pissed more than I was happy after all my efforts in my wax job. I have more damn door dings and rock chips all on the front and sides of my truck than I cared to count. I hate people who don't know how to open car doors correctly. That is all. Rant over. Anybody else have this problem?

I completely understand. I almost hate hand washing mine due to all the rock chips. I still believe these aluminum trucks chip worse than any other I have had. Both my '15 and '18 are that way and I don't drive on roads that are bad.

I find that I accumulate more steps on my FitBit by parking way out in the boondocks to keep from getting these dings. I also like to have plenty of room to open my doors to unload myself, my passengers, and the truck's contents without having to work in tight quarters...

I park in a parking garage for work. I've starting parking on the 5th floor where I usually park alone. Not a single car out of 300 spaces probably. I feel a bit better about things now but still annoying.

Worst thing about my truck so far.

A clear film/bra is your best investment. You can do it yourself for under $300 for the entire front end. It pays for itself many times over.
It can be a bear to install, but worth the few hours for having zero front end chips for as long as you own it.

Door dings are another story altogether.

If you don't wont to go the film route, you can simply tape the front end off and use the clear plastidip over the winter months, then peal it off in the spring. At least you will eliminate the worst of it for the cost of a can of dip.

i pretty much do this also, it’s sad how people are oblivious to what’s areound them and don’t even notice they opened their door into your truck. I called a guy on it once and his only response was “no I didn’t” while his car door was still up against the door of my explorer.

It's funny that you say this about door dings and you are in Houston. I noticed when we moved to Houston that people may be nicer in the south but they don't give a crap about each others vehicles at all. My wife's car was perfect when we moved here. Had 3 door dings within the first couple months.
