Default Code P0453 on 2.7 eco

2016, 2.7 eco, Reg Cab. Truck is new with only 1550 miles on odometer.

I just pulled a P0453 ( Evap Emission Control System ) after 80 mile trip home. Engine light came on as i was pulling in my neighborhood couple hundred yards from home. Although i had just filled tank before making the journey home, I feel that i didn't over fill tank and impossible to leave cap off since it doesn't have one. After pump tripped i only add around $.50 - $.60 to round off dollar amount.

Any advise as to if i should just reset / clear code, or take to dealer so this instance gets logged ?

The truck is only 4 weeks old and thought maybe i should just clear code and see if it comes back. I will call a dealership tomorrow. I have no faith in dealership i purchased from. I am sure they would just clear code and send me on my way.

Thanks

If it's not out of the way I would stop and tell them. They'll either take a quick look or set up a service appt. New truck = have it taken care of properly. Could easily be one of several different things from non issue to leave you stranded.

Update to my post.

I ended up clearing code that night 06/19/23.

Code returned 2 days later 06/21/16 as I was leaving dealership in regards to other issues. I backed up and pulled back into service dept. They scanned and got same P0453. I explained I had cleared same code two days earlier and I scheduled appt.

06/23/16 Dropped off truck to be repaired. Invoice states they performed some test and reprogrammed PCM with latest IDS upgrades. I didn’t feel a reprogram of PCM was going to fix this and sure enough about 3 miles from dealership engine light came back on. Beings it was closing time I called and have to take it back tomorrow. I checked code once I got home and again it is P0453.

That is 3 times in approx. 150 miles. 1703 on odometer at this time.

Sorry to hear it hasn't been resolved yet. Please keep us posted on the outcome.

Dropped off truck this morning and jokingly mentioned to service writer I didn’t think reprogram would have solved code P0453. I honestly wasn’t been a smart*** and told her I’m not a Ford tech, but my guess is pressure sensor on tank. She kind of got mad and started blabbing how they have to go by protocols and procedures and that code called for update PCM and they can’t just start throwing parts on truck. It’s 8:30 in the morning and she is already uptight.

She called me later this evening and her first words were it is the sensor on tank. Part is on backorder and not sure of date they will receive part. I can come and get truck and it should be ok to drive till part arrives.

Part on order is FL3Z-9D683-B ( Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor And Tube ). Not sure of the connection here, but this part was used on TSB-15-0171 ( 2015 F-150 ) BUILT ON OR BEFORE 10/5/2015 , DTC Code P2450. Beings this part is used on 2015 TSB and back ordered it’s possible others ( 2016 ) may see similar issue.

Thanks for the info. Glad they were able to accurately diagnosis (hopefully) this time.
