Default Clunk when shifting

Often but not always I get a small clunk when shifting to reverse and then to drive. I don't feel it but definitely hear it. How much of this clunk is normal? I'm pretty good about using the e brake when parking but it still does it.

Lots of my searches were older trucks and not the newer models (2017)

I had the same issue and was told to take driveshaft out and grease the splines on the inside where it goes into the transmission. Ford didnt machine the splines tight enough and when normal wear occurs there is play and the grease takes up the space . I do mine once year and no clunk .TA DA ( short for da ta da da) .

Ah, gotcha. I'll look into that. Thanks! Is the clunk damaging anything? I'm still under warranty but hate going up there to be told it's normal and I'm an idiot.

Dont think it is doing any damage. the fix I was talking about was for a 2014 , i think. there is a tsb on the older models . If I had a truck that was still under warranty ,I would take it back to the dealership and have them install the grease .

Ok, I'm making a list to get it checked

@waltheraustin What was the verdict of you bringing your truck in for this issue? My 2019 does the exact same thing. The rest of the transmission shifts smoothly but moving it from reverse to drive results in a "clunk". I am still under warranty but would like to go into the shop prepared with some knowledge.

Mine does it when I back into the garage put in neutral and then park, then it clunks but as others say, I really don’t feel the clunk.
I have a 2019 with 1500 miles.

I have been noticing this myself lately. I am just not sure that I am not still rolling when I put in drive. I am really going to have to concentrate on coming to a complete stop before I shift to drive and see if it still happens.
