Default Clock still losing time -

I have had my 2015 F-150 Lariat since June and the clock keeps losing time.

Sometimes it will go days and the time is spot on, other times it is off by a much as a 90 minutes. I reset it via the 'sync to GPS' button and it resets correctly, but next time I get in it might have the right time or not.

I talked to my Ford dealer and they said they have not heard of this nor are there any TSB's. They said I could bring it in and look at it (not sure what they are going to look at) as I said it could be 1 day or a week or 2 before the time gets screwed up.

It should not be this hard to have a clock in your vehicle.

This smells of a battery issue within the head unit of the stereo. Normally it charges itself when the car is running and can last up to 90 days with no power. There's a good chance that something isn't right there. I dont have my truck yet so, I can only guess based on my previous experiences with PC's.

My recommendation(something that wont hurt one way or another): Disconnect the battery from the terminals overnight, put them back on in the morning and see how long that makes the time last. (good ol' restart is starting to work on cars now-a-days! lol ) Either way, this shouldn't take more than a few mins of your time and has minimal downside so, it may be something to try while others chime in.

Good luck! Let us know.

I agree this might a battery or ground issue. On car stereos there are no battery's internal to them, they used to have a yellow wire to battery. Now a days they are run off the CanBus and I am not sure what the constant power or battery is on now.

Clean the battery terminal and tighten them first thing

Einstein said time speeds up as you move further from the Earth, maybe you're just way high, or way down?...
Sorry just watched a documentary in the plane last night about that!

Just checked the time on the truck and it lost 12 minutes between yesterday afternoon and this morning. And yes the time was correct when I shut the truck off yesterday.

Annoying.

Default Got truck back from dealer work and now it's losing a couple minutes a day

Took my truck in for service (replace the driver side mirror and fix the driver side door panel) and now it's losing a couple minutes a day. It was fine before the service. I get it to reset the time to gps and that fixes it, but it's lost time the last 2 days. Not sure what is happening here. Any insights would be appreciated. This is a 2015 platinum with sirius/xm and nav.

Totally unrelated but...I had a microwave that constantly lost time. I build clocks for fun and can tell you digital clocks tell time by the oscillations of a crystal. It simply counts the oscillations. If the crystal is not within spec it will oscillate either too frequently causing a fast condition or not frequent enough causing a low condition. Either way you need a new head unit as finding the crystal on the board would be difficult in itself let alone getting a replacement. For what it's worth they look like little silver half matchsticks with two leads. As a side note, some ac clocks will use the 60 hertz from household 120 to keep time too.

Default 2015 F150 XLT losing time too

My clock has been losing time as well, 2015 F150 XLT. It is the same as above, some days loses 2 mins other days 20+ mins. Usually after sitting overnight. Taken to the dealership multiple times. They check batteries, connections, re-flash computer, update everything. Still has the issues.

I am taking it into another dealer where I bought the truck, they have agreed to keep it for several days to work and diagnose it more.

I'll post an update when I can.

If it's the older Sync (not sync 3) it may need an update.

I don't know about the F150 but some things I have worked with you could select for the clock to update with GPS signal or not. Could it be just a setting issue? I would think it would correct the time when it started receiving GPS signals.
