Default Climate...Engine On or Off?

Can anyone tell me if the engine should be on when using A/C or heater?

I thought I read or heard that the new types of climate systems are electric and do not rely on gas, so having the engine on is not necessary?

Anyone?

Um...yes the engine must be running on an F-150 in order for the climate systems to work. On some of the new hybrid vehicles the heater will work w/o engine on but not the a/c.

Damn heated/cooled/massaging seats don't work unless the engine is on either.....should work with just accessory power IMO.

The seat cooling is electric. Not sure if it works without engine actually running. It is not apart of the trucks ac system.

I've never seen any vehicle, car or truck, that would run the A/C without the engine running.

The serpentine belt has to be running to run the compressor, yes...
