The source we use here to order our OEM Ford parts from does not agree with you that the parts are the same. How do you know that the parts are the same? Have you actually took the caps off of an XL mirror? I hope you're right. I've bought too many wrong parts based only on someone's word. This why I would like the information specifically from an F-150 XL owner.

We'll being that I have an xl package truck with the sport package which are just powered options and swapped my caps for chrome ones, then purchased the xlt mirrors and found out turn signals are plug and play and then swapped them same chrome caps onto them mirrors and then swapped them for the painted factory white ones. And my cousin has a plain Jane xl truck with no powered options and he was able to swap his mirror caps for the factory painted ones I would assume I know a little something about the mirrors. Part numbers might be slightly off but the mirrors are the same just without the motors, and cut outs for the extras. So the source that your using must just go by what they see and not what they have actually experienced. Just like I'm installing a floor shifter console in my xl within the next week. Not many people have even bothered to say that have completed the upgrade and many people say it can't be done

It would have been a lot easier if you had said that in the beginning. All I was wanting was some verification. Thanks for the information.

All the caps pop right off if you grip it good with your palm and pull towards you. The issue is some of the mounting tabs break. As long as you have 1 or 2 you can use a silicone of some type to get it to hold and have fun removing them after that lol
You can remove the glass to remove the caps but I've done it a few times and it's iffy feels like the glass will break.

I'm wanting to go from Black to PTM or Factory Painted caps for my XLT...Where did you purchase your new caps? Thanks for the info-->

Also, Would power folding mirrors be a straight Plug & Play on an XLT?

eBay has the pair painted to match for $240 unless you buy base model ones and have them Smoothed and painted. And no the power fold is a totally different plug and switches on the door. I'm sure you can add wires to make them work but it's not a job I would want to test out and potentially ruin the expensive mirrrors

Understand about the mirror swap.

Do the PTM versions come already smooth or do they need to be sanded and prepped?

They are smoothed and painted your color and ready to install out of the box. Go to eBay and paste this item number in and you'll see them $220 shipped

Thought that PTM would mean ready to paint...So my factory Black Rough Plastic Texture are considered PTM?

Guess I'll have to find them already painted.

No. ptm is painted to match. I've been discussing this whole time that the ones for $220 on eBay are already smoothed and painted. Honestly your confusing me now
