My wife recently traded vehicles and her new truck has wireless charging, which I've found to be extremely handy. I know that Ford makes a kit for our F150s but it is very pricey in my opinion. So I did some research and this is what I've come up with for my use - you may have worked out something that works better or is cheaper and there may be 100 posts about this already, but I was lazy and didn't search. I had some ideas of how I wanted to do it and had some criteria 1. Had to be fairly easy to install, 2. Had to look stock as possible, 3. Had to be reasonably cheap (there are cheaper alternatives to the charger I chose, but this one is pretty powerful), and 4. Had to work good with the case on the phone, as well as be hidden.
So here is what I came up with: (sorry for the large picture sizes) This was the charging pad I got from Amazon for $19.99, has 3 charging coils so orientation of the phone does not matter and the size was good This car adapter is the quick charge version and allows the charger to use its full capability
Pick which end of the console tray you want the charger to be in, I didn't want it in the middle. Then drill a small hole for the cord to come through - I drilled down low so it couldn't be seen You can start the hole higher up and you will end up with a smaller hole - I started at the bottom and there was no need to be that low as the port on the pad is midway up Test fitting the charger pad and then I put a couple of strips of 3M double face tape on the bottom so it wouldn't move around Cord sticks through and covers the hole (don't mind the rubber band anti slip devices lol) I then added cardboard on the other end as a spacer to raise the rest of the tray floor up This is with the tray liner back in place Another angle of the completed tray Back in the truck - looks pretty stock if you don't know anything has been done to it. Don't mind the console, in the middle of switching from column shift to floor shift - another reason for the wireless charger need, I no longer have the pocket that I used to lay my phone in. I tied up the excess cable and that prevents the tray from sliding as well
So that's the end of the project from this morning, probably took about 30 minutes mainly just making everything tidy and clean on the install. The charger works great even with the case on my I Phone and doesn't eliminate any use of the tray when I'm not charging the phone. It meets my criteria and I'm happy with how it turned out.
