Anyone that thinks the F-150 is an easy oil change has never changed the oil on a European car with an extractor and cartridge oil filter. No ramps, no lift, no getting under the car. I miss oil changes on my BMW's.

Did you leave the shields off the bottom or do you take them off and put them back on with each oil change?

I need to invest in a Fomoto or Ronin drain plug. Also, ramps too.

I've been changing the oil on my 15 3.5 eco since new. It sucks.

Need to take off the felt diaper that covers up the cross pipe. Oil drain is sideways, thankfully have a high sided funnel that works perfect for it. The oil filter, when on jack stands, fills up the skid plan with oil and you get two places that oil drips from, so no matter what you have a mess.

I do it on ramps in garage, all comes out the back of plastic tray. Once new filter is installed, I take rag, wipe out tray.

With the Fomoto valve, on the 3.5, all I do is insert hose on end, other end into a jug. I get away easily with fist taking out the 2 front 8mm bolts and letting it hang down. My flashlight just happens to be a nice stand that only lets it hang down a little bit. I only need a couple inches there.

Yes you do...
Rotating the tires is the bigger PITA. having to flop the rears after you go back to front (I do that every other oil change, I change my oil at 4/5k). I have 2 jacks, maybe I should put rear on jack stands, front on jacks.

Changed the oil in my '15 5.0 for first time this weekend (I bought in October). Get underneath, awesome, drain plug is wide open, thats easy. I feared a big gush and splashing but everything there behaved nicely.

No to find the filter. WTF, who puts the filter right over a big flat crossmember.? Find an empty plastic bottle and cut out a reasonable looking funnel to get the oil to drain off. Get under truck and realize that Ford put a drip tray and spout on crossmember, cool! Pull filter off, get back under truck and realize that most of the spilled oil actually flows backwards off back of crossmember and completely missed my oil catch pan

I buy my synthetic oil & Motor craft filter, then drop off the truck at my mechanic. $40 & a couple of hours later, he calls me to come pick it up. Easy peasy

FWIW
Ford must have made some changes for 2022. I now have a steel oil pan and drain plug and oil change is much easier on my 5.0L 2022 F 150. Oil stream from pan hits nothing besides collection container and oil from filter drains down through hole in skid plate and troth again with very little mess to clean up.
Admit a horizontal oil filter sucks harry rocky maintain oysters (still attached to their owner) dipped in hog droppings though.

I suspect relocating the oil filter and a vacuum pump are in my future if it's that messy.

Changing the oil in our 2012 JGC was 15 minutes, start to finish. That included getting everything out and putting it away. Zero mess.

The last time I changed the oil on my F150, the little piece of pvc pipe i use to keep the drain plug from coming out entirely and making a huge mess when the oil gushes out, got bumped and I had a huge mess... oil all over the garage floor, the ramps, me... I was so pissed. I'm pretty sure the neighbors learned some new curse words eventhough I was in the garage, with the doors shut, AC running and stereo on.

I wonder if this could be swapped over to the '18-'20 5.0s? I didn't know they went back to a metal pan and plug.
