Default Center speaker

I know it looks like a speaker up on the dash but is it? I can’t get my head up there and tell. I have the stock Sony system. There doesn’t seem to be any adjustments for it.

Yes, there is a speaker their (unless someone pulled it from prior ownership) and no, there is no adjustment for it other than the audio settings in the infotainment center that controls balance for the system but, no separate control for it. The system is a component type set up and that center speaker is the midrange speaker for both left and right.

I was messing with the audio settings in my truck yesterday and found there was a setting for surround or stereo. I wonder if one of those settings might impact how much the center speaker is used. I have the B&O system in my truck but I would imagine it is the same with the Sony, I don't think there is much difference between the two. Honestly I couldn't hear any difference between the two settings but I am pretty much deaf in one ear from blast damage while in the Army. Buy hey it saves me from spending lots of money on home theater systems and wanting to upgrade audio in vehicles.

My XLT has the regular stock stereo setup with no factory sub and that center speaker drowns out any small amount of bass there is in that crappy audio system.
The center speaker far as i can tell is for mid range frequencies where at least with my ears are sensitive to which ends up dominating especially the lower and to some extent reducing the crispness of higher frequencies..
I get a little better sounding audio by adjusting the mid frequency band lower in the audio setup equalizer and attenuating down the rear speakers.

I tried the surround setting which with my ears seemed to distort music a little more.
I'd think the the Sony or B&O audio is much better..... Don't know.

Lesson learned, I will never buy another new vehicle again without a stock premium sound system which includes a sub.

For myself, I never go into buying a vehicle based on the audio system option because I'm fairly certain that an upgrade of my choice will be at hand and I will look forward to upgrading with the components of my choice. When compared to the current premium audio option offered from
Ford for example, I save a ton of money and get a better sound system for my troubles.

The 16 Lariat with Sony in my truck has plenty of bass from the sub. But the center speaker is too overwhelming.
1) it reproduces sound very poorly
2) it's not a wall balanced sound stage

The truck is flooded with sound, however the center speaker with a lousy voice coil is just too loud to provide a good balance.

Fading it to the rear 1 or 2 ticks helps a little.

+1, disconnect the center speaker, replace front door speakers, add small woofer/amp of choice behind seat. Or go to other end of scale and amp front/rear doors, sub and active stage. But at least w/ minimum costs cheaper than Ford's options and better sounding.

I also never go into buying a vehicle for the audio system. Different reasons though. My hearing is crap so it is all (factory or aftermarket) a waste of money. I listen to pod casts most of the time commuting anyhow so if it is just people talking it really doesn't matter. I didn't go Platinum for the B&O system, it was all the other stuff.

Have you tried changing the audio focus to driver?
