I described the installation process in the other “PRNDL” post on my late-build 2018; I glued the OEM part to directly and flush to the underside of the console. No light is creeping through any gaps, and the letters illuminate just like my 2016 did.

2018 f-150 - floor shift transmission selector lever - floor shift gear selection indicator (prndl) not illuminated - built on or after 17-jan-2018
2018 f-150 vehicles equipped with a floor shift transmission selector lever built on or after 17-jan-2018 are not equipped with an illuminated gear selection indicator (prndl) on the transmission selector lever assembly. Do not attempt any repairs or replace any parts for this condition.

Some were wondering how the LED attached to the base, it screws on as well as the cup holders and the boot cover just slips into the tabs.

my 18 (Nov17 build) lights up... and if I didn't have it.. maybe I'd want it. But it in no way, shape, or form indicates what gear you are in, and the size/shape of the shift lever in relation to the indicator still offers little if any use. The only real useful indicator is in the gauge cluster. Maybe that's why Ford is dropping it. But lots of little soft lights in the cabin at night are a nice, classy tough to be honest.

Thanks man. I need to remove the console to tackle a pesky rattle with the cup holders, so might as well do this mod (already have the light on hand). Will send you a PM to see what kind of glue you used. Thx.

EDIT: You blocked PMs, so will have to come back here again, to see if you answered . Thx.

I used four tiny dabs of LocTite 404.

Wondering if it's because yours is an early build. Mine (built Jan 2018) does not light up. Never did so I don't think it's a case of the light malfunctioning.

[Never mind...seems to be hit or miss based on posts here]
