Are the letters supposed to be backlit? Dr oes it show the what position is selected?
new used truck. Dash cluster indicator works but I am naturally looking down. Mine is not backlit or indicator

 

Non lit after 2018 mid season. You can buy the part and do yourself less than $20.

 

It'll light up but I don't think it will indicate the selected gear. Only on the dash for that. I think.

 

My 2018 XLT did not light up - I wired it up, it now lights up and shows gear in canter console, albeit extremely dim.

 

How....the gear indicator is what I'm looking for....

 

The center console gear markings are just back lit on models up to mid 2018. Ford got rid of the backlight about mid 2018 production cycle.
It never indicated what gear you were in. That info is displayed in the instrument cluster.

 

and yet...mine does. extremely dim, but definitely lit up.

 

Its on the dash.

Ive been driving my 2018 for 4 years now and Ive never needed to look down on my console to see what gear im in.
