Catch Can for 2018 2.7L Eco?
Hey guys, I'm a new F-150 owner as of 11/7/18 so I'm new to the group. My question is this: I've read that the EcoBoosts may need a valve catch can. I also read that the new 2.7L EcoBoost for 2018 does not need one because they are both direct and port injection. I know the engines are both direct and port injectioned but does that really mean there is no need for the catch can? Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

Hopefully you don’t get beat up too badly for not doing a search on this topic.... You should do so and you will find a weeks worth of reading material.
To answer your question. No. No engine, any year, in Ford’s line up needs a catch can. Waste of money.

My mechanic said it best, "if these engines needed a catch, Ford would have put one in."...He owns or has owned 4 Raptors, His dad, the shop owner has a brand new 18' Raptor, (his second), "I'll install one for 500.00. or keep the 500.00 and rebuild your engine if it blows, your bet, but I'm taking my wife to Mexico and could use another 500.00". The youngest brother, on his first Raptor, a 2017, said, "John, I put one in because my dad kept asking for 500.00."
I still have my 500.00
I still have my 500.00

My take on this - it depends. Is the catch can critical for the performance - no. Will the truck break without the catch can - no. Will you gain any advantage by installing the catch can - this is unproven.
So if you absolutely want it - nothing will stop you from installing it. But you will need to maintain (empty) the can regularly.
And yes - I have it installed because why not and I feel better. That's only what important to me if I can afford it.

IMHO... Cath Cans were put on 3.5's.. Labeled "All Ecoboost needs catch cans". The 2.7 didn't come out till 2015. I have 15 2.7, so i read the crap out off these threads about CC's.. I decided NOT to install one. Most 2.7 owners do NOT have CC's. 3.5 Owners run many more CC's than 2.7 owners.. IMHO

Got a 2018 2.7 Eco in April. Bone stock as far as engine mods.Installed a JLT catch can on the passenger side. Had one on my 2011 5.0. I check it about once a month and there's oil in there. Maybe an ounce or so. Not judging anyone who is on either side of this topic, but that oil would have ended up being fed into the intake of the motor. I can't see how that wouldn't lead to some build-up or deposits on the intake valves over time. Maybe Ford designed it that way, but I would rather not burn off motor oil.
