Mine goes through a touchfree automatic car wash at least once a week. Not sure what's going to happen to it there that won't happen to it with a wand, but I'm not too going to worry too much about hurting a vehicle that I use to slog through jobsites and wet gravel roads.

In which case - why wash 1+ per week ?

Shiny construction truck ?

The touch less car washes don't scratch but they use very harsh chemicals to clean without direct contact ... At least once per week comes out to hundreds of car washes over the years...

Thing is, when it's freezing out you'll encapsulate your truck in ice if you take it to a coin op. The under carriage sprayer is far from perfect but it's better than nothing when it's sub zero temps.

I see you live in St George. I've been through there in the dead of winter and it seems pretty mild there, like you can wash your truck in the driveway year round.

Where we get heavy winters from November to April, we can't wash in our driveways. Sometimes automatic washes are the only option.

I run mine through the touch-free wash at work almost daily and I don't think twice about it, I don't use the brush washes though.

I don't like to run any vehicle thru a carwash with brushes. I'm afraid they will have something embedded in them to scratch the paint. Winter is with a wand and summer hand wash in driveway.

Yep they do. My truck is white after they put it on the roads. They use calcium chloride (white crystalline salt) - not sodium chloride salt but still 'salt'

i know what calcium chloride is lol. imma derrick hand

you're right and you're wrong . they don't use it directly, only on the piles of road sand to keep them from freezing, along with magnesium chloride.
however. I've never noticed stains on the truck. hm.

we don't use sodium chloride cause its useless once it dips below -15 or so

Growing up worked at a rag wash. One afternoon customers were telling us a brush bearing or something was going out. End of the day we went through the whole wash.

A big antennae off a suburban was ripped off and spun around the drum. No telling how many cars were beat with it

Um, to clean off the dirt so it looks nice. Someone else pays for unlimited washes on my truck so it goes through whenever it's dirty.

I sell big construction equipment. Might be on an industrial jobsite one minute and at an office building the next.

Like soap and wax? I'll chance it. I just need a clean truck, I'm not caring for a faberge egg here. Whatever downsides might exist from a touchfree wash don't show up in the timeframe that I'll have the vehicle.
