Default CarPlay question

I recently upgraded my sync 3 to car play. It works great but there is one thing that is driving me crazy!

I have factory navigation in my XLT and when CarPlay is connected I lose it. On the sync “home screen” it used to show my map, what’s playing, and my phone connected.

Now it wont display my navigation map OR CarPlay map, just a big icon to click and it brings me to the map part.

One of the things I really enjoy about sync3 is the home screen that displays a map, my music, and my phone connection. With CarPlay I lose this.

Is there any way to change the display?

Even if you push the Sync icon on the CarPlay page?

you cant, either your factory nav is on or carplay (Android Auto as well) is on full screen. You have to exit from one to go the other. No way around it, thats the protocol for either AA/CP.

if you want to go back to stock nav you need to exit carplay and disconnect the phone from its USB cable.

Well, that’s dumb. I like to have navigation display the map while I drive... not necessarily navigating, just to see my surroundings. It appears I can’t do that with CarPlay unless I’m actually IN the apple map. They really need to update this

Thats how carplay/android integration works. I have not seen a car that shows the native OS and carplay/android maps overlapped over it.

Yeah I’m beta testing another third party nav via app link and it’s the same way just a big box on the home screen.

Well that is disappointing. Kudos to ford for building a very user friendly display and entertainment center, but FAIL for having such a terrible navigation.

Im torn because the apple map works 100x better than the navigation AND as a bonus amazon prime music is a CarPlay app! So that is good.

But for when I’m not using navigation, the sync 3 home screen is laid out much better

Yeah another member on the Rogan train! I am going to see him in February.

Back on topic, I like having the map open to see my surroundings but there is no way to do it while using CarPlay.
