No need to disable it just don't enable it. What it does is give you the ability to view live pics of your vehicle and also store extra videos in the cloud. I got the 128 gig version which can hold 24 hours of video before starting over. It also has a parking feature which will record if there is a bump or ever motion detection if you like. I also got the power magic pro hard wire kit which will give it power 24/7 but will shut off at a certain low voltage point so to leave enough battery to start your vehicle. So far i have not enabled the cloud option, not sure i need it.

My understanding was that even if you don't want to use the cloud option, if you don't agree to the sending of positions to them, you can't use the mobile app, and therefore can't even access the camera locally to see local video. Am I misunderstanding things, and you CAN say NO to sending position, and still use iPhone app locally to communicate with camera directly and view video local?

Just don't enable the cloud. I did not. Camera works fine with my galaxy s7 edge and you can view past video on file. It only ask's you to agree to sending positions if you enable the cloud feature. It's a great system, i think. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call the guys at thedashcamstore.com 888-855-5470. These people are in texas and know their products very well. Even haggled a bit on the price as i was talking to them. Also good with install advise.

While it is a privacy concern it is not unethical.
