Welcome to the forums! I think the previous response was in jest. The reason is because this topic has been beaten to death, and there is a sticky on the top of the forums that contains the information you are looking for.
If you do some searching first before posting more than likely you will find what you are looking for.
Have a good day!

Never, they announced it's not happening. You have to buy a 2017 to get the update. Sales are slumping so they don't want to retro fit old trucks.

OP, I actually read your question a little while ago and decided not to post, as there are already quite a few threads on this subject and I think that explaining to a new member that there is a Search function available for his/her question and that there is also a Sticky thread on the first page of this year group would help more.
I am/have been patiently waiting on the Sync3 v2 update as well because Ford has changed the release date a few times and the last time I checked, it was later this year, hopefully the timeline does not change again. Either way, I bought my truck like it is and am good with it now, any software updates that Ford pushes out for free or with a small charge (the USB hub for Apple CarPlay) I am good on waiting for. That being said, I still would like the release soon, but am also hopeful that when the release is sent out, the additional bug fixes have been thoroughly tested as well. Good luck on your quest and welcome to the Site.
Tom
