Just curious. Does anyone know why Ford chose to use that type of filter arrangement? Is there some advantage?
I had a 2007 Caddy SRX SUV, V-6, for 10 years, and it had the same filter arrangement on the upper left side of the engine. But the housing was metal.
Every annual oil change I wondered why the heck they did that. Very easy to change, and the cartridge was cheap, but why?

Plastic, plastic, plastic.....whatever happened to the metal oil filters?
Oh i see the new plastic setups are cheaper and in some cases lighter.
Give me an old school spin on metal oil filter any day.

Go here and you can download your owners manual by vehicle in a PDF format. https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...rd&model=F-150
One thing you will find that when you search for Oil Filter in the owners manual, it will tell you what type of filter you need, but nowhere does it state where it is located.
I think some of the posters didn't read the post correctly, or maybe I didn't. You were wanting to know where the oil filter was located on your truck, not the type to go buy one correct? If so then the people telling you to look in the owners manual wouldn't have been able to find it either (at least on the online PDF version). It shows locations of some items of the truck, but not where the oil filter is located.

He had a legitimate question. We all can provide our two cents that leads to a solution but the jokes are unnecessary. Everyone has their strengths.
Hope the oil change goes well and enjoy the new truck!

My current ride as a 3.5L . I will miss the convenience of the 2.7's oil filter swap. I do hope the oil changing process on the 3.5 goes well when the time comes.
