Default Can 'I' program a replacement XLT switchblade key?

My dealer said $185 for a new key fob, and $175 to program it.

The tiny laser inscription inside of the key where the switchblade goes, pops up a 2015 F-150 series key online and I can get them for very reasonable. I should be able to have a good locksmith cut it for $5-15.

How can I program the immobilizer chip on the key so that it will start the truck? Is it possible with some crazy combination of things, or is it like my Audi was and you MUST pay Ford for the service?

I can program my 8 year old G8 keys myself, I would hope it was as easy with this new truck. You would probably use the space under the console cubby tray, where you program MyKey.

Maybe use the same instructions on page 71?

Programming a Spare Integrated
Keyhead Transmitter
Note:
You can program a maximum of
eight coded keys to your vehicle. All eight
can be integrated keyhead transmitters.

You can program your own integrated
keyhead transmitter or standard
SecuriLock coded keys to your vehicle. This
procedure programs both the engine
immobilizer keycode and the remote entry
portion of the remote control to your
vehicle.
Only use integrated keyhead transmitters
or standard SecuriLock keys.
You must have two previously
programmed coded keys and the new
unprogrammed key readily accessible.
Contact an authorized dealer to have the
spare key programmed if two previously
programmed coded keys are not available.
Read and understand the entire procedure
before you begin.

Well, it was 100% impossible on my newer generation Audi. Validated years ago on the Audi forums that only Audi Corporate can. Even the dealer computer connects out to corporate to make it happen. It sucked!
My Ducati's there is a process to program keys.

If you have to good keys you can program another yourself. I you only have 1 good key the it needs a dealer or locksmith to do the programming.

1. Insert the first previously programmed
coded key into the ignition.
2. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep
the ignition on for at least three
seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Switch the ignition off and remove the
first coded key from the ignition.
4. After three seconds but within 10
seconds of switching the ignition off,
insert the second previously coded key
into the ignition.
5. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep
the ignition on for at least three
seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Switch the ignition off and remove the
second previously programmed coded
key from the ignition.
7. After three seconds but within 10
seconds of switching the ignition off
and removing the previously
programmed coded key, insert the new
unprogrammed key into the ignition.
8. Switch the ignition from off to on. Keep
the ignition on for at least six seconds
until you hear the door locks cycle.
9. Remove the newly programmed coded
key from the ignition.
The key starts the engine if programming
is successful. You can operate the remote
entry system if the new key is an integrated
keyhead transmitter.
If programming was not successful, wait
20 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 8.
If you are still unsuccessful, take your
vehicle to an authorized dealer.
Programming a Spare Intelligent
Access Key
Note:
You can program a maximum of four
intelligent access keys to your vehicle.

Anybody know how to program remotes only to work on the 2015? I have some spare key heads from my 2012 that I would like to use as a backup along with the bidirectional remote start fob from the 2012. And yes I know the bi directional part of the fob wont work until I upgrade other parts of the 2015 RS system.

On the 2012 you just had to turn the key on/off like 10 times in X amount of seconds to get in into remote learning mode but that doesn't seem to work on the 2015 when I tried it....

thanks!

I would bet, that if you show up first thing Monday morning, at your local Ford dealership, with 2-3 dozen glazed donuts, they would program your remote for free....

Does it need 2 existing keys like the F-150? A friend bought a used Diavel that only came with one key, and he's having a heck of a time getting a spare.

Older Ducati's like circa 2006 and before often came with *1* red key, 2 black keys, a key card and a little metal tab. The red key should never be used, but placed in a safe location. With 1 red key you can program new black keys which you can buy online like $35-45 new (with the chip in em of course). You cannot program less than 2 black keys with 1 red key. The little metal tab with the code combo is a way you can bypass the immobilizer IF you have problems with it, but have a key to turn the ignition over. It is a process you use with the throttle to enter the codes. The key card should be guarded too in a safe spot as it could possibly be used to create a new red key.

Newer Ducati's only come with 2 black keys, a little metal tab with a code on it, and the key/code card. Same gig with the card, it is what you need to make any black keys, and the little tab is to bypass the immobilizer, per start. The black keys must be made at a Ducati dealer, or cloned by a lock smith. Ultimatly the Ducati doesn't know if Key #2 is cloned 3x, they are all then Key #2.

If he doesnt have the card, the dealer wont give you one. Ever! So you just get the black key cloned, OR have the immobilizer disabled in the ECU by a place like motowheels or SOS Diagnostics, then just use any blank key cut to fit the ignition.
