Default Cam phasers question

So I had the cam phasers replaced along with the high pressure fuel pump and I’m wondering if replacing the cam phasers is going to be a regular thing? Or now that they’ve been replaced they will it be good for some time? I have less than 28,000 miles on it...2018 3.5L

Anyone having repeat visits to the shop to replace them?

thanks
Rob

I would expect the cam phasers to last the life of the engine. They are a two part action so did they specify if they replaced the sensors or the pick-up?
Fuel pumps do wear out but there is no specified change interval. Making sure you use good clean, water free gas will ensure the life of the pump. Not running the tank to the minimum helps too. Do keep up with the fuel filter specified change interval.

work order says they removed and replaced 4 phasers. More worries that this is going to be an issue again. Do they not last? Or is it just a one off.

These trucks have replaceable fuel filters? I assumed they where in the tank and non replaceable. Where exactly is it located on the 3.5l and what’s the interval?

From my manual "Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuel filter that is integrated with the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not needed"

why exactly were your cam phasers replaced? Ideally no they shouldn't be replaced often and should last about as long as the timing chain and the oil pump. or the cams for that matter.

BUT - a few things might make one go bad early other than just bad production. cheap oil, bad oil that might foam up and cavitation could hurt them. But again - uncommon.

very uncommon. So I would think you'll be fine especially if they were replaced via TSB.

Meanwhile on the HP fuel pump - similar vein. It should last as long as the timing chain or the cam rollers. Again aside from bad manufacturing - they should run a long time. HOwever I do believe that some bad fuel causes a number of the failures - or more specifically the "pump whine" that some people report. and I don't say cheap fuel - bad fuel. Might well come from a top tier maker, though less likely - but the fuel lubricity might not be good enough.

I had a knocking sound for about a second on a cold start up...if it was sitting over night or after work etc. Once they replaced them it was gone. When I went to pick up my truck it sounded like a typewriter and that was the high pressure fuel pump....all better now and runs smoother than I think it did to start with.

just don’t want this to be a common issue that I have to deal with.

Hopefully not, but haven't read Ford actually improved them, so who knows. Hey, may I ask you what was the progression since new? Were they noisy since day 1? Or if they started progressively getting noisier, do you remember details? We'd appreciate your feedback, to know what we're dealing with. Mine has pinging since day 1, which was greatly diminished with premium fuel, but not eliminated. Never tested for the cold cam-phaser rattle, but found out it was there one time I heard it, around 5K miles (now 6.6K). Not concerned about that at the moment, but hopefully it won't keep getting worse. We'll see.
