If I can do it anybody can. Did mine yesterday. Took 30 minutes with me hobbling around and repositioning on a healing broken ankle.
The video(s) on YouTube are very helpful. Remember to get the bottom two "hinge tabs" lined up before you snap the cover back on. If you release the main glove box, you can use the filter box to prop it up.
Mine was 33k miles and pretty dirty.

After installing one, I think all trucks come with a dampener. The stops aren't designed in a manner that they would catch the box if you let go, they just bend inwards and the box continues on, dumping the contents. I though mine didn't come with one, but found a dampener part a few months after installing one, it was the upper 'housing', was just behind the top edge of the carpet.

The person that designed the access to the cabin air filter should be prohibited from ever working in the auto industry again.
On my damper, the slide came out of the gear box. When I reassembled it, the gear box got rotated 180° and the glove box door would flop open and have resistance closing. So I had to take it apart and rotate the gear housing.
Between the little white clips continually popping off the plastic trim and the ears on the rubber trim not going into the alignment holes, I was about ready to cut the back of the glove box off so I wouldn't have to ever do this again.

Dealer Motorcraft Cabin air filter: $24.95
Dealer install: $25.00 (No broken trim or dampers)
What's the big deal?
