Default A/C Performance

I live in the south so having a strong A/C is one of the things at the top of my must have list. I never had any complaints about the A/C in the 1 1/2 years I've owned it, it's capable of handling our summer heat. But a few months ago I finally had the front windows tinted. I let the sales guy talk me into upgrading to solar rejecting ceramic tint and WOW what a difference. Today was unseasonably hot, even for us, at 96 degrees, humid and sunny. The truck's A/C before the tint would cool it down in about 10-15 minutes but now with the tint it gets down right cold in the same amount of time. Ford must have heard the complaints about the previous generation's A/C and upped the capacity of the current generation. Also, get ceramic tint I highly recommend it.

+1 on the good A/C in the F150 and the ceramic tint. That and a good windshield sun shade are a must here in East TX.

Having a 13 with a bad AC, this is good to hear. I wont consider buying a future Ford truck without knowing the ac is working better than my 13. I will be needing a windshield soon, so I will also do the interior ceramic tint.

Has it always been inadequate or has it weakened over time? If it's the latter, I'd take it by a good shop.

My mechanic told me when I took my '01 Lariat in for A/C service that the systems on newer vehicles are very sensitive to the amount of coolant within the system. Having it below or above a narrow range causes it to operate at less than full efficiency or not at all.

You are referring to refrigerant and not coolant, correct?

thanks, yes bad from get go. Ford has replaced parts and ensured correct charge. It has to do with whatever is causing it to cycle, like the probe in the evap coil. Ford has replaced this assembly. Unit is suppose to have 36-38 cycling at coil, mine is 44-48. Last effort from ford was that they were going to get with engineers, never heard back from them after follow up inquiries, even to Ford and GM of dealership.

Just gave up, I know I can’t drive it during summer months here in Houston.

thanks

I read on the interwebs that the problem with the previous generation was the evaporator is to small and this makes it take longer to absorb the heat and humidity. It would be interesting to check the capacity differences in the systems from the generation and the previous. Digitaltrucker what is the refrigerant capacity of your truck? On my 2016 the sticker under the hood says 1.93lbs of refrigerant..
