Default A/C Blower Question

I have a 2017 XLT Screw with 3.5EB. A couple of days ago I began noticing that it seems like the amount of air coming from the dash vents is less than it used to be. The fan control is switched to high but there just doesn’t seem to be enough air blowing from the vents. I can select either dash, defrost, or on the feet and the location the air blows from does change. The speed of the blower motor also changes as I cycle the **** through the different settings.

Anyone seen anything like this? It could just be my perception. My dad has a 2020 XL and I’ll try to compare mine to his to see if the outputs are similar.

If your system has an issue and the evaporator freezes, it will reduce the air flow. Could be low on r134a causing it to freeze, then blocks the air flow. When it does this, if you look under the passenger side foot well, is the evaporator box all damp, cold and sweating? After a while being off, does it work fine again?

It seems to be a lower flow of air all of the time. I haven't noticed a change back and forth. I have noticed that sometimes the recirculation setting will turn on by itself. Again, it may be flowing fine and I'm just thinking it is low.

What are the symptoms of the blend door/actuator problem that some F150's are having? I was thinking mine might be a blend door issue.

This might be a possibility. I have noticed that the amount of air coming from the vents does fluctuate at times without me changing the speed of the blower. But I've noticed what I feel like is a lesser amount of airflow when I first get into the truck in the morning after it has been sitting all night.

I was finally able to compare my truck to another F150. Mine is a 2017 XLT crew cab with 3.5EB. Comparison truck is a 2020 XLT crew cab with 5.0.

Trucks sitting side by side in the parking lot idling. A/C set to coldest temp, dash vents only and blower on high. The 2020 definitely pushes more air out of the vents than mine.

It is as if my blower doesn’t reach high speed. I do not feel air coming from the floor or defrost vents.

Any ideas? Blend door?

How about the sound of the fan? Can you hear it? In the comparison, does your fan sound like it's turning as fast even though the flow of the air is lower?

I could not really tell a difference in the sound. I looked in the owner’s manual and I only see one relay and one fuse listed.

Since the blower is turning should the fuse and relay be ok? I plan to pull the cabin filter out again and see if I can feel anything or see anything in the ductwork that might be blocking the air flow.

What are the symptoms of a broken blend door or faulty actuator?
