Default Bug Shield

I don't see many if any trucks with bug shields on their hoods, what are most using to protect their hoods from chips and dents, flying debris ?

I guess I’ve never understood the use of them. They protect such a small area and seem like you can’t clean behind them. You still get bugs all over the front end and the look is altered. I’ve read about the aerodynamics pushing bugs away, but I can’t imagine it protects the whole windshield or much of it.

Those that have them, what benefit do they play after instal? I don’t plan to add one, but I’m genuinely curious.

I use a bug shield but it's more than for just bugs. I actually have a hole in it now from flying debris of some sort that would have left a decent size impact mark.
Mine is clear. I bought it with the intentions of painting the backside to match my truck but once it was on , you don't really notice it.

@2008__XL They do a decent job of keep the windshield clean. It doesn't keep them all of but there is a good difference and on a long drive through heavily bug covered areas it helps.

I gave up on bug shields. Put them on several vehicles. Made the bugs hit the windshield right at my eye level.
Yes, they protect your hood’s front edge but then you don’t see it anyways and it often detracts from the vehicle style.

I have a Silverado that I bought with a bug guard. The only reason that I will e repainting my hood will be from the bug shield contacting the hood and wearing it down to the primer. Once I get around to painting, I won't be putting the shield back on. I'll likely put paint protection film on instead.

That front edge of the hood above the grille gets hit with a lot of bugs and rocks. That area on my last truck had a ton of chips from things hitting it. When I got the first couple chips on this truck, I installed the bug guard. It also helps deflect bugs and rocks away from the windshield (not 100%).
