Default Broken key fobs pushbutton start

anyone else have issues with the part of the pushbutton fob that you put a key ring on breaking?
i run a 2015 lariat, bought it used, both of the fobs the silver part that my key ring goes on broke, not the silver part but rather the POS plastic housing.
i bought 2 new housing off of ebay, was so happy with the quality, got them saturday, YEP one of the actual metal parts broke on it.

any work arounds? i seen the hokey metal cases on amazon, makes the fob bulkier and read bad reviews on them.

any suggestions?
they are the 5 button short fobs.
i happen to have a 5 button longer one from a rental expedition 2017 i had, anyone know if that style will work with a 2015? seems to be a beefier design.

You can use this style FOB. If you have two keys that came with the truck, you can program it yourself. That's what I use. It works on your truck, even though it says F250. It's what comes with the 18+ F150s

The Expedition FOB you have will not work, as it is first gen tech, while your truck is second gen.

i just want to be certain, the compatibility chart on the ebay page only goes back to 2017. my truck is a 2015.
and your saying the 2017 fob i have is first gen but my 2015 is second gen? i have no idea how ford does things like this so i don't doubt your knowledge.
i just want to be sure before i lay out money and it not work.
the fobs for the 2015 are a **** design. had the same issue with our 2015 edge keys but only mine as the wife kept hers in her hand bag.
i like mine on a key chain as i use the remote start all the time and dont really like things in my pockets.

thanks in advance for all info

Default leather key fob covers

I bought some leather key fob covers on eBay. These have an attachment mechanism so you can put them on your key ring. Not only that, they keep the key fob from breaking into a million pieces if you ever drop it on the floor. A friend of mine did that with her Cadillac. She dropped her key and the thing broke open and sent the circuit board in One Direction and the battery in another and the keypad and face cover in yet another. Fortunately I was able to find all the pieces and snap it back together and she could start her car.

I've learned a lot about these things over the years. The people at the KIA dealer told me that the reason why the batteries on my key fob we're going dead is that I kept the key on a hook less than 20 feet from the car. This meant that the key was constantly communicating with the car and it drained the battery in short order. I now keep the car keys on a hook further away. I also keep at least four or five spare batteries in the glove box in case the damn thing dies while I'm out and about.

They also told me that if the key fob does die, you can remove the internal key to unlock the car. If you place the key fob right over the push button and press the start button the car should start and get you home. But get a new battery for it, if you don't already keep spares in your glove box.

I'm not sure this is real progress over the old technology. My old Nissan had a plain metal key that you could have made at Home Depot. Hell, I think you could have started that truck with a sharpened screwdriver jammed in the ignition switch. But nobody wanted to steal that thing.

the fords will tell you on the dash when the batteries are getting low. nice feature.
i'll look into the leather holder. seen some metal ones but they are bulky and bad reviews of them falling apart. only held together with one screw.
Kbexperience suggested getting an F250 one. looks like it is made better, probably going to get one regardless to have a spare key, i have 2 but a third is always piece of mind.

as far as the screwdriver, i had a Yugo years ago (yea yea i know, they couldnt give you one, well it was given to me brand new, toyota dealer had the yugo dealership, when they went under they had stock. if you bought a new toyota they would give you one for $200 in taxes!! brand new car? why not. ran it to work, through the woods whatever, it was a running ****, not fast, 70mph max with one person, would slow down on hills) we took the yugo skiing one time and i lost the keys. jammed a big *** screwdriver in the ignition and forced it. from that day on the car started with a screwdriver!!! o the fun we had in that red piece of schatt!!

Yes. It will work. I’m using one on my ‘16. That exact listing. It’s the same remote but in a different case.

I bought the amazon bulkier key fob case for my 2015 ..., just cut the cover off the case to directly access the oem fob ... I can even see the red or green idiot light... I've had these key fob cases for three years with no issuesBroken key fobs pushbutton start-photo195.jpg

dont they close with a screw? if so and your cant get in the truck, say dead battery so door keypad is not going to work, how will you get the key out of the fob to open the door?
or do they snap together?

ok thanks. yea that would work.
i cant believe i have spent as much time as i have on freaking key fobs.
was real happy when i found the replacement cases, pfffft it didnt last 2 days. crap design by ford.
i just ordered one of those you got from amazon.
looks like it screws close differently.
if i dont like it too much i am just going to wire one of the keys under the truck somewhere.
i used to do this to every car i owned as i went through a 10 or so year period of constantly losing my keys.
that is one reason i have had keyless entry \\ push button start since they came around.
this way keys stay on my belt loop, but i can tie a key up somewhere just incase.

thanks again for the feedback
