Brand new truck ......... Pinging
so as the title says , I have a brand new 2018 F150 5.0 . It’s making a pinging noise on light accel , not a tick , not a knock , but a ping and only for a second when your accelerating up a hill or around a corner after stopping . Took it to ford for a warranty check and they told me it was the high pressure fuel pump . . I am a 3rd year service tech and I know the difference between a high pressure fuel pump noise and a ping . I don’t have time at my shop to diagnose this issue but I was wondering if anyone else on here has had the same problem and might know what to look for . Maybe a faulty knock sensor . The truck doesn’t have any cel . Thanks in advance .

Throw a tank of Premium in and see what happens.

Yeah, could be a fuel issue man. If with premium doesn't ping, then you have your answer. By the way, premium is recommended on both your 5.0 and my 3.5EB, although regular is acceptable. But it should be a high quality fuel or it'd ping. I use regular on mine (Shell or Chevron), and no issues. Mine pinged too when new, but who knows what crap gas dealer used. Had to fill with premium at about half tank, and it was back to normal. Good luck.

My ecoboost does it on 87, no matter what brand it sounds like the engine is full of nuts and bolts under light acceleration. Dealer blew me off so hopefully its normal or it blows up before the 3/36 is up. Mine also knocks like a diesel when the engine is hot, they blamed it on the HPFP, but it only did it after a few thousand miles and when the engine is hot so im not buying it.

Yep that’s the sound . Nuts and bolts . I’ve ran mid grade in it but it didn’t seem to make any difference. I also didn’t mention the truck has 3000 km on it . I’ll run a tank of premium through it and see i notice any change . Going to make an appointment at another dealership and maybe they won’t brush it off as hpfp.

Understanding how the timing is controlled on these engines, I would be shocked if detonation ever got bad enough to be audible. I don’t know what the noise is, but I highly doubt it’s pinging.
